Character Abilities Tally

Guess who gets to steal another post from Erin?

(Hint: It's me)

In an effort to keep things a little more organized for plottishness and so on, we're going to ask a quick favor of you all.

Could you please reply to each appropriate comment below, and let us know what kind of powers/abilities/etc your character possesses? This is for all characters - students/alumni, teachers and townies - and covers everything including especially good researching/support skills, magic, skill with weaponry, mutations and so on. This is mandatory for all characters, and we would appreciate it ASAP though there is no specific deadline.

Anything that is a canon power or ability of your character and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. Temporary powers for specific plots do not need to be noted now.

Please be as thorough as possible, as this will help everyone out with plots and knowing who can fill what roles.

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

**Wait for the OCD omg or I will take you up on a roof and Chuck Bass you.** OCD up and nobody is getting molested. Huzzah!

1 In this instance, "canon" does refer to FH canon as well. If your character at this time has honed their fighting skills or anything like that, please do make sure to note that. For guidelines on characters picking up abilities, please see this post.

2 For those of you who had characters around the last couple years and just want to C&P what you put in the post then, here are some shiny links for you.

In Tori's career as a ranger, she was proficient in fighting with a ninja sword. It was only used while she was morphed.

So, it's safe to say that if it's needed, Tori can handle swords, but she tends to not use weapons, unless absolutely necessary. Also, she's pretty good at using objects around her to aid her in a fight.

Re: Support Skills

[identity profile] water-wonder.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Tori was always the one out of her two friends to possess the skill for reasoning out solutions without need for fighting, as well as figuring out how to end conflicts without further violence. She can think critically as well, and was the logical and sensible ninja in her group of friends.

She's also pretty good at doing research and hunting down clues/information critical to situations.

Being an elf, Arya has quick reflexes and is immortal. She looks a lot younger than she is. She can also communicate telepathically with dragons.

Re: Weaponry

[identity profile] allyofthevarden.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya fights exceptionally well with a sword -- it's her weapon of choice. She's a pretty good shot with a bow and arrows, too.

Re: Fighting Abilities

[identity profile] allyofthevarden.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya is well versed in hand-to-hand combat, having been trained by her people at an early age. Most of the time, she will have her sword on her -- she's more comfortable using that.

But, if she needs to, she will be able to defend herself without a weapon

Re: Magic Abilities

[identity profile] allyofthevarden.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya does have special powers, thanks to her race. According to Paolini, elves are born with magic. The ability to wield magic comes easily to them. Arya's pretty damn good at casting spells and using magic when she feels the need. Most of the time, she'll use it only in dire situations-- life or death, basically.

She can also use magic to heal people. It will take a lot out of her, but with rest, she'll gain her strength back and be able to heal again.

Re: Miscellaneous!

[identity profile] allyofthevarden.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Arya, aside from telepathically communicating with dragons, has a way with other animals. She can calm them down -- she's been known to do it with horses.

Also, being an elven ambassador means she has a way with words. Arya can calmly diffuse a situation with her words (most of the time, anyway) -- she knows how to talk to people. She a damn good courier too (how do you think Eragon got his dragon egg?), so if you need something transported and protected on its way? Arya's your gal.

Adam is good at building things -- seriously, whenever Billy needed help with a science experiment (or building something for the Rangers), Adam would help him out. So, there's that.

The exact limits of what witches on the Disc are able to do haven't really been defined, and it's probably safe to say that theoretically, there are none. There are practical limits, however, because all magic has its cost. You can't just do something without paying the price, and if you try to, it'll catch up with you eventually. Agnes is just a beginner, anyway, so she can hardly do anything. She's had some instruction from Granny and Nanny -- mostly them yelling at her when she's doing it wrong -- and has a whole library of books and notes in the cottage to learn from, but she's only been at it for a few months. She knows some herb lore, can do some simple spells, that sort of thing. It doesn't matter much, anyway, because Diamanda had been right about one thing -- "real" witchery was about three quarters trickery, one quarter intimidation, and only the tiniest fraction of the time did they do any real, actual magic.

In addition to more normal sorts of things -- brewing potions, flying broomsticks, etc. -- Agnes's magic has enhanced her vocal talents. She can sing in harmony with herself, mimic anyone, throw her voice anywhere in the room, hit notes that only dogs can hear, and all sorts of other things.

Since coming to Fandom, she's been reading up on magic from books in the library and the Magic Box, and has been learning quite a bit, although she hasn't actually practiced much.

Re: Weaponry

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Agnes has no weapons experience whatsoever, and wouldn't know what to do with one other than point the pointy end that-a-way.

Nevertheless, it's worth noting that the two (and sometimes more, if she's having a bad day) 8-inch-long, wicked-looking hatpins securing her hat in place don't technically count as weapons.

Re: Support Skills

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Agnes isn't all that GOOD at it, but she has a basic knowledge of healing with herbs.

Re: Psychics

[identity profile] finding-x-dream.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Agnes is vaguely psychic, for any and all definitions of "psychic". She isn't telepathic -- yet -- and read minds or possess animals -- yet -- but she should be able to pick up, at least vaguely, any psychic vibrations going on.

Also, due to her nascent multiple personality disorder, she's harder than normal for psychics to pin down or control.

Sokka's fairly skilled at fighting with boomerang, club, and machete. Especially the boomerang. Like, superhumanly good with a boomerang.

Since coming to Fandom, he's become decent with guns as well -- handguns, shotguns (with salt-filled shells), and submachine guns. He has a tendency to run through ammo as quickly as humanly possible.

He's currently not too bad with a sword, and getting better the more he practices with Deadpool.

Re: Fighting Abilities

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka had some rudimentary hand-to-hand training growing up, but it's gone a little rusty now -- he's much more comfortable with weapons.

Re: Miscellaneous!

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka, along with the rest of the ninja-ing class his first summer, learned the Naruto-canon abilities to create shadow clones, walk on water, and create exploding tags. He's not very good at them, but he's very excited about the sort-of-not-quite-special-powers-ness. He's also not too shabby at picking locks.

Re: Support Skills

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sokka's pretty skilled in coming up with plans, figuring out how things work, and general research stuff. Not too bright, but very, very clever.

Re: Magic Abilities

[identity profile] maxnotsam.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Max has a Luger which he carries with him at all times (just don't ask where). He's an excellent shot.

Re: Fighting Abilities

[identity profile] maxnotsam.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Max is proficient at the noble art of fisticuffs (or, at least, the noble art of punching people in the head). He's also excellent at general melee, where he uses a feral, animalistic, no-holds-barred style with lots of biting and clawing. Those sharp, pointy teeth of his aren't just for show.

Re: Psychics

[identity profile] maxnotsam.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Because his mind is so messed up, Max is completely incompatible with hypnosis and mind control. There's also a chance that trying to read his thoughts will drive a psychic insane.

Re: Miscellaneous!

[identity profile] maxnotsam.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Max has a metal plate in his skull. This will probably never be relevant, unless you're trying to pick him up with a magnet.

He's amphibious.

He can eat just about anything without any permanent ill effects, ESPECIALLY if it'll give him comically severe indigestion.

He's currently President of the United States. That means that he can sic nuclear missiles or giant battle robots on you.

He's capable of breaking the fourth wall or being inappropriately meta for the purposes of (probably lame) humor.

He's one of the most powerful forces of chaos in the universe, and is mentioned in at least a dozen different prophecies of the apocalypse.

He carries a Luger and a wallet ID on him at all times. Just don't ask where.

In the context of trying to solve obscure puzzles while adventuring, Max can be used as a tool by Sam in lots of creative ways.

Re: Magic Abilities

Rikku knows four basic (level 1) elemental spells: Fire, Blizzard, Water and Thunder. These are offensive/attack spells, but weak ones - less damage then punching someone, usually, although they're slightly more powerful now than when she first got to Fandom. The amount of water generated from "Water" has been mentioned in FH canon as being around a bucketful, "Blizzard" is that amount of ice, "Fire" is a small fireball, and "Thunder" is a weak lightning bolt.

Rikku also learned a low level White Magic/Healing spell, Esuna, from Lulu -- this can remove status effects (Poison, Silence, Petrification).

Rikku doesn't need any preparation time or items to cast these spells, but she would wear herself out if she tried to cast, say, ten to fifteen times in a row, and would need rest before she was able to do more magic.

In her canon, anyone can learn magic, so she could teach someone else these spells if their background allowed for it.

Re: Weaponry

[personal profile] the_merriest 2009-01-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Rikku's weapon of choice is a claw - essentially, she attaches metal spikes to her glove. The one she has in Fandom is her souped-up Ultimate Weapon, the Godhand. Using a claw basically means you run up to the enemy, make a few quick slashes, and hop away again.

She's highly skilled and experienced at what she does. She's not a tank, but her speed, accuracy and evasion are all through the roof.

While in Fandom, Rikku has also been practicing more with swords, guns, and knives. She owns throwing knives that were given to her by Aly and a Glock that was given to her by Deadpool. She's not as good (or as comfortable) with these as she is with her claw, but she knows her way around them pretty well.

She has also been experimenting lately with daggers -- aka, the long slicey weapons she has in X-2. Still just getting the hang of those.

Re: Fighting Abilities

[personal profile] the_merriest 2009-01-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Rikku's not exactly trained in hand-to-hand, but all of her fighting experience is at close range/melee level. Rikku's weapon is essentially a spiked glove, so most of her weapons experience carries over here; in the few fights in-game where she doesn't have it, she fights the same, but with punches instead of slashes.

She's not trained in any particular martial arts fighting techniques; she's more the street fighter type who learned to fight by being in fights.

While in Fandom, she's been doing a lot of no-weapons hand-to-hand sparring with Deadpool and Reno.

Re: Support Skills

[personal profile] the_merriest 2009-01-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Rikku is in essence a sidekick character. She's fast, accurate, and evasive: not the party's tank, but closer to the rogue/thief archetype.

Rikku knows a White Magic/Healing spell called "Esuna" which can clear up ailments such as Poison, Silence or Darkness. She can cast it without preparation or any special items, but she can only cast it so many times before she will need to rest and recharge, so to speak.

Her leg-pouch has healing potions in it, as well as protective items that can assist others; i.e., this item can form a shield that means you only take half-damage from certain attacks.

Rikku speaks a language called Al Bhed; Lulu is fluent in it, and Reno and Alec are both learning.

Re: Miscellaneous!

[personal profile] the_merriest 2009-01-14 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Rikku's a thief. She can lift an average person's wallet without them realizing it. She can even punch someone and end up with their wallet. If you need something pickpocketed, she's your girl.

She has a set of lockpicks that were given to her by Aly, and she's fast with them.

She's an Alchemist -- she has lots of random items in the leg-pouch of hers, and can mix them up to make a water bomb, a healing potion, a protective shell, or any number of other combinations. A lot of those are explosives, but not all.

Rikku can hold her breath for thirteen minutes underwater. This is a learnable skill, in her canon, and there is an entire sport based around it. Her cousin Yuna back home says "there's a trick to it," and is up to two and a half minutes. She's been teaching Reno; he's up to six and a half.

Rikku has a knack with mechanical items, and likes to take things apart and put them back together.

Rikku can make armor, if you need it, and can also upgrade your current weapon or armor (if you / your canon allows for it) -- i.e., your weapon now has Flamestrike on it, which adds fire damage, and so on. Please note that upgrades are permanent and can't be reversed, and that weapons and armor can only have three or four upgrades, total.
