upcoming event: tropes weekend!
So the last BDE threw some trauma at our kids, and now there are new characters since then, so why don't we lighten things up again? That's right, it's time for...
!!!!!!! TROPES WEEKEND !!!!!!!
Next Friday, September 20, alumni and ex-pats will be able to come to town for an event on Saturday... by mistake. There is no event. Oops! But you might as well stay now, and from September 21-22, Fandom will be all tropes, all the time. It'll work like other theme weekends of the past: anyone on island can be affected by tropes from fanfic/movies/books/TV that they probably would never have to deal with in their (fictional) real lives. Do you want your character and someone else's character to go undercover as a married couple? Want to bet with another character on whether you can make a(n already hot) girl hot by simply taking off her glasses? Now's your chance! Are you having conflict with another character and want to be literally locked in a closet with them instead of just mentioning in email that you should totally lock them in a closet together sometime? Not that I have ever done that! Do you want random amnesia due to a bump on the head that can only be cured by another bump on the head? Oh boy, do you ever!
Here are the rules:
*Characters' situations are up to their players, and anyone affected by the weekend will believe all these situations are true. (If someone's in the warehouse district fighting a bunch of goons in an open post, you can ping in to be a goon. Do not mod anyone else into it without permission, though.)
*If the owner of a place wants to change it for the weekend, they can. If you want you dorm room or apartment to be the size it is on TV, it can be. NPC businesses can be changed at will.
*However the Perk is absolutely a coffee shop AU all weekend, first come, first serve to whoever posts. I don't make the rulesoh wait.
*Feel free to combine tropes for your characters! If you want your character to basically be Hermione Sue who also is living a Lifetime movie and has to have a makeover, there's nothing stopping you.
*However if your character is affected by the weekend, they can't be normal again midway through, and vice versa.
*If you want to either subvert a trope your character already embodies, or just lean into it extra hard, why not.
*If any of your sex scenes this weekend are normal, why?
*Fandom itself is a trope-a-palooza by nature, therefore, if there's a common FH trope (genderswap, sex pollen, de-aging) that you want to use, go for it. We are in fact turning the island into more of a crackfic than normal.
*Any marriages that take place over this weekend are not legally binding.
*Anything that would bring NPCs to the island is however off-limits (no AU kids or self-insert OCs, for instance).
*Everyone will wake up Monday totally normal, all the places will go back to normal, and everyone will remember every detail of the weekend.
If you need inspiration, you can get lost reading about fanfic tropes, or maybe romcom tropes, action tropes, fantasy tropes, soap opera tropes, or random overused tropes, etc. etc. etc.
