Info for this weekend's event

As previously indicated, this weekend we will be having a big event that will be slightly different than previous weekend events. We feel that while the action scenes may be a little more limited than they have been during previous events, on the whole it will turn out to be one of the more unique and hopefully fun events we've run so far.

Late Friday night, after the radio broadcast, the Gentlemen from Buffy the Vampire Slayer's fourth season episode, "Hush," will be stopping by the island. If you know the episode, you should have a basic idea of how the plot goes. Late Friday when they arrive, the voices of everyone in Fandom will be trapped in a box, leaving everyone mute. From late Friday through Sunday evening, nobody in Fandom will be able to say a word. Please have fun with narrative. Saturday night, they will attempt to brutally slaughter some people. And then Sunday there will be a team assembled to take the Gentlemen out in a slightly more blunt fashion than what happened on the show.

Specifics follow behind the cut:

On Saturday, the school administration will have the situation explained to them. Late in the afternoon, the administration will bring all students from the campground to the dorms and lock them in the building for their own safety. This is where the idea of the big slumber party comes in. There should be some activity in the common rooms as people deal with either the threat or boredom from not being able to fight the threat.

Saturday evening, five people will be attacked by the Gentlemen. We're still playing with the "no character deaths" rule, so everyone will escape somehow. The specific degree of any injuries will be discussed beforehand so that we can play nice with the FTEC. The five people attacked will be randomly chosen from people who sign up in the appropriate OCD thread below. The chosen characters will be alerted personally on Thursday morning. Please only sign up if you will be available on Saturday.

In most cases, only the characters picked will encounter Gentlemen on Saturday night. If you are picked, we can and will coordinate with you to figure out how your character is attacked and how they escape.

On Sunday, the dorm lock-in will end during the day, but will be reinstated during the evening until the administration gets word (*rimshot*) that all is clear. How will this all end?

Enter the Fandom Troopers. The Troopers, along with some townies picked at random from whomever signs up in the OCD thread, will stage an assault on the Gentlemen's home base. Sorry, students, but we're giving the townies the love this time and letting the troopers finally have the glory they so richly deserve. At the end of the battle, voices will be returned, the Gentlemen will be defeated, and all will be relatively back to normal. Oh, and students will get to return to the cabins.

We do apologize for any inconveniences this plot causes. That's why we gave a head's up last Saturday saying that something big was happening. The lock-down in the dorms is a necessity with a principal who would take such a threat seriously, and the no voice thing obviously provides a challenge to interaction. However, we have a fantastic set of players in this game and we're confident that you can pull it off. There is no real way to avoid this plot while being on the island, so if you don't want your character(s) involved, they'll have to go off the island for a couple days. Fortunately, it will be Saturday and Sunday which tend to be slow anyway.

The main reasons we waited until today to give specific info was 1) to get the last of our ducks in a row organizationally before it was announced, and 2) honestly, we felt the mute interactions would turn out better if you didn't have a full week to prepare them. It would take away some of the spontaneity that makes this kind of event work. We hope that you understand our reasons.

With that long post over, we now turn to OCD sign ups.

I'm taking suggestions on how to do radio for Saturday! Right now, sock puppets might happen!

*g*

Also, when you mean available, is that all day or just some part of Saturday?

Morse Code.

Smoke signals

Instant Messenger.

Sign Language.

Semaphore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semaphore_%28communication%29)

There is a service that facilitates communication between deaf people and hearing people. The deaf person types in what they want to communicate and a person who works for the service calls the number of the hearing person. They read what the deaf person types to the hearing person and type what the hearing person says to the deaf person. I'm told the people who work as translators at these places are hard to phase...

*shares tissues*

Same here. I'm clinging to the hope of the promised wireless network. I won't have near enough time to play, but at least I can watch.

What is likely to be the timing on events? I mean, afternoon, evening, etc? For the people in more exotic time zones.

Saturday's attacks will likely be posted in the evening US time, but some preplay with attacks is very possible. The move over to the dorms will happen during the afternoon, probably set up earlyish.

Sunday's assualt will likely go up in the afternoon at some point.

Do they only take human voices since it's a human scream that kills them, or will they lock down on all organic vocal communication?

BTW - I love the idea of it being the townies to save the day. If Tommy wasn't already doing an FTEC shift I'd sign him up for that too.

I've also got backup with the nurse for FTEC that night.

*raises hand* Janet's clinic shift is the Sunday day shift. Can she sneak out of the dorms to get to that? Or is she stuck?

Also, I may or may not be around Saturday night. It depends on babysitting issues that won't be resolved 'til later this week. If I am, is it acceptable to drop Janet in the clinic to help out with possible injury overload, or should I have her try to sneak out and get caught?

Re: I WANT TO BE HEARD (Now)

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-07-12 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps Bel could shimmer her there?

The clinic is now protected a la Caritas, so it would be a safe place. And shimmering between two safe places wouldn't be dangerous, right?

We don't have the specific timing worked out yet, but I think you probably would still be able to get some action in. At the very least, you could sign up and we'll figure out if it can work.

As incredibly awesome as it would be to sign up, I'm not sure how my work schedule is going to be this weekend ;_; More than likely I'll be working until 6pm PST on Saturday.

There will still be people who will be playing Gentlemen up at that time on Saturday. Basically you just need to be around long enough to be attacked, so sign up if you'd like. :)
