Ron is an average wizard who is in his sixth year of schooling but is no where near as advanced as Hermione or Harry. In canon he doesn't appear to show a lot of his spellcasting, but for FH purposes he can handle your average spell easily and will have to work hard at an advanced spell. He has had some DADA training from his previous year with "Dumbledore's Army".
