Character Ability Tally!! (because the memes weren't eating your afternoon enough)

WATCH ME SHAMELESSLY USE THE SAME POST AGAIN.

(I wrote it. I'm allowed to cannibalize it. Hush.)

In an effort to keep things a little more organized for plottishness and so on, we're going to ask a quick favor of you all.

Could you please reply to each appropriate comment below, and let us know what kind of powers/abilities/etc your character possesses? This is for all characters - students/alumni, teachers and townies - and covers everything including especially good researching/support skills, magic, skill with weaponry, mutations and so on. This is mandatory for all characters, and we would appreciate it ASAP though there is no specific deadline.

Anything that is a canon1 power or ability of your character and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. Temporary powers for specific plots do not need to be noted now.

Please be as thorough as possible, as this will help everyone out with plots and knowing who can fill what roles.

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

(And naturally, there will be threads, so please wait for the rather long OCD or I will have to kill something Done! Have at it.)

1 In this instance, "canon" does refer to FH canon as well. If your character at this time has honed their fighting skills or anything like that, please do make sure to note that. For guidelines on characters picking up abilities, please see this post.

2 For those of you who had characters around the last couple years and just want to C&P what you put in the post then, here are some shiny links for you.

Ella's a linguistics sue -- in canon, it's explicitly stated that if she hears language once, she knows it forever. Right now she has Gnomish, Elfish, Ogrese, Ayorthian and some Al Bhed, and human languages are just around the corner.

Robin speaks fluent French.

And, um...she can read?

Re: Support Skills

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoshi is a linguistic genius. She can rapidly pick up a new language. She's also got super-sensitive hearing and the ability to recreate sounds that humans normally can't make, which is an asset with it comes to alien languages.

For people who are Earth-based, she can determine their origin from the way they speak.

She's also good with research when needed.

Meg's very well read, particularly political stuff. And she's got pretty decent research skills.

Fraser's very observant and sees things that most people don't do. He's very, very thorough.

He's also an exceptional mediator and has the ability to talk down those in the highest stress situations.

He's also got basic first aid skills.

Gavin's a half decent researcher and has show the ability to think outside the box a few times canonically.

Mike is a surveillance expert. He can also build computer systems or hack into them. He's also been known to put surveillance cameras in something as small as a casino chip.

Normal people plan weddings. Mary planned a weekend of 100 weddings as a publicity stunt, so she could always help out with organizing stuff.

John's proven himself to be a very good researcher, good with helping organizing big groups and good being a go between re: communication.

Piper is pretty good with magical research and has studied the Book of Shadows. She's also quite organized and can tend to be a bit of an OCD freak.

Summer doesn't have any special skills or abilities, but she is smart and organized. She'd probably be able to help out with research.

Robin can act as a messenger/courier, or help tote supplies.

Tosh is a big geek who loves to research and is quite good at it.

Anakin is a trained diplomat.

Really.

Stop laughing.

Cable ran his own island for a while. Before that, he was also leader of his own people, and leader of his own team in between. He tends to Know Stuff, or at least plans ahead enough to be able to fake it.

Ender is the greatest strategist of his canon and an amazing leader to boot. If you can convince him to be, anyway.

Helen has some ability in research and scholarly things as she was heavily trained in those areas by the priests.

Flying. Seriously. Murdock is noted in canon as 'best chopper pilot of Vietnam'. He can fly all range of modern aircraft; heavy jets, jet fighters, choppers, single engine small aircraft, larger cargo planes.

Basically, if it's got wings and isn't a space craft, he can fly it.

He can speak fluent Vietnamese, Mandaran Chinese and possibly a bit of Russian. His Italian sucks though.

Also, he can fling gernades/explosive-y type things quite well.

Sam knows Latin. Sam loves Latin. He probably has at least a passing knowledge of other ancient or dead languages as well, in addition to Hebrew.

He also has mid-level First Aid skills.

G'Kar is a trained diplomat/Ambassador, having served as Narn Ambassador to the League of Non-Alligned Worlds.

Later, he was chosen to sit on the Council for the newly formed Interstellar Alliance.

He is adept at speech writing and public speaking. He wrote a book that made him a religious icon among his own people (hence why he ran off went to explore the universe).

An excellent politician, he is.

Team: Xander's a lieutenant-type: he's very good at following orders (but will call bullshit if they sound crazy), but also has a lot of experience leading a smaller group/team on specific assignments.

Research: He's got a lot of experience with research on spells and demons, though it's not his favorite activity and he's not a genius at it. He knows how to use the internet at about the level of your average fangeek, thanks to FH, and is a pretty big lint-trap for pop culture information, especially fantasy/SF/comic-books, and adventure movies.

Languages: After doing the world-traveler thing for 3 years he can probably ask which way to the bathroom in a bunch of languages, not all of them human, but it's pretty much baby-talk level. He also took French at Sunnydale High and Creature Languages at FH; he still remembers at least some Rat and Spider. He can read Latin aloud but tends to be a danger to self and others when doing so.

Medical: A crapload of basic first aid.

Ghanima is fluent in multiple languages, thanks to the people in her head. So far, Ancient Greek, Sumerian, Old Norse, Latin, Arabic, Romani, Gaelic, and French are the ones that have been stated in either book or FH canon, but odds are she knows more.

She also speaks fluent Galach, 'Standard' (English), Chakobsa (Fremen), and ASL, all from her own experiences.
