Multiverse backpacking trip!
I posted an idea in the latest brainstorming post about a post-graduation dimension-hopping trip for seniors. The admins have approved the concept! We need to work out some details before final approval, so anyone who's interested, please chime in!
Here's the deal - Portalocity has a great deal on multiverse travel passes for students - the Multipass. (49 Days: Infinite Possibilities!) A group of recent Fandom High graduates decide to take advantage of the deal and backpack through a bunch of dimensions.
Each MultiPass would have the date, time and location of the next portal out, so characters could split up if they wanted and still make it to the next location. If we wanted to send the characters somewhere that they wouldn't have chosen to go (ex. Camelot, where they'd have to hide their modernness and any magic for fear of being burned at the stake) then Portalocity can make a mistake and drop them in the wrong time/place. Customer service will either be unreachable or politely unhelpful and their passes will show how much time they have to wait until they can take a portal out. (Unplanned destinations will have the same OOC approval process as the planned destinations.)
Accommodations would be a little rougher than the usual resorts they go to on breaks. Generally, they'd stay at the local equivalent of a student hostel or local motel. All planned housing would have been cleared with some interdimentional travel service as being safe and appropriate for students. (Of course, sometimes things get rough nearby, if you wander in the wrong direction.) They could also stay with alumni or relatives of Fandom residents, if it's offered.
The trip's for the seniors only, but anyone who wants to have a trip to their canon can have their characters join in for that bit of the trip. (Ex.: if they make a stop to Kaeleer, Karla could join them on that part of the trip.)
The admins sayeth:
So graduating seniors would leave just before the new kids arrived and the last stop on the trip would end right before the mid-summer break.
Questions I have for you!
- Does the seven-week trip work for you guys? I was thinking we could hit up some place mellow - maybe Priestly's Santa Cruz or something similar - for the first week, which would let the seniors relax and not divert too much energy from the new kids. We could always ramp up thedanger fun later on.
- How long at each place? This may depend on individual locations.
Seniors and non-seniors: Are you willing to host a trip in your canon? We'd need a post each day for your canon's section of the trip, a guide to the area and NPCs for interaction. (
glacial_witch's trip to her home this weekend is a good example, actually.) Your canonmates (if you have them) would have to approve the visit as well. You're totally welcome to share hosting duties if multiple people are willing.
Or could you host a non-FH canon? Same requirements as a regular canon, just minus the need for canonmate approval.
There's probably tons of things I'm forgetting or haven't thought of yet, so questions? Comments? Statement of purpose?

*We'd consider going on the trip to be leaving the island for Term 1 (just like any character can in the summer). Thus trip participants couldn't ditch mid-trip and come back to stay on the island in the middle of term. If there was some need to visit the island, though, the general alumni rules of five days a month would apply.
*We encourage playing hard with Portalocity's established tendency of being annoying and occasionally unreliable at the level of your average major international airport. Go accidental stops in "unplanned" dimensions, and possibly a day stuck in the departures terminal at some point for extra facepalming.

...someone had to.
I will be back with real thoughts after work.

Also, I'm totally down with this idea and would like to subscribe to its newsletter. Or something.
I'm also now wondering if the SPN version of Heaven (as seen last week) could potentially count as an accidental destination. The basic idea of it is that everyone would have their own little individual heavenly area (aside from special cases, you know, like soulmates *eyes Winchester boys*) made up of good memories/ideal locations -- my brain is now going rapid fire trying to figure this out. This is what happens when you play an angel from a show you've titled Television of the Absurd.

Yeah, that's all I've got right now. :D Except that's a pretty snazzy idea.

. . . the guys might have to camp outside the village though.

...so yes. Generally volunteering.

But I have a question about the destinations and NCPing. We could offer up San Francisco 2021 where Chris, Wyatt & Summer are but we don't really have any canon folks to NPC. However, we were thinking we could do something fun like a demon attack/plotty type thing. Could we have a day or two where folks can go out on their own to explore the city and then a day or two of plotty goodness with NPCs and all?
ETA
After further conversation with two of my three canonmates, we've come up with an alternate scenario for Chris & Wyatt's universe. The trip plan could be to visit them in their SF but Portalocity screws up and sends the FHers to the alternate future seen in Chris-Crossed (http://charmed.wikia.com/wiki/Chris-Crossed) where Wyatt is an evil dictator and the city is under siege by demons and Chris and Bianca are fighting to change things.

As for hosting, my little lot all have very 'normal' universes. But Shawn could probably host something and have everyone stay at The Centre. His Seattle is a lot like regular Seattle but some people have powers, and it's very... politically turbulent because of that.

There may not be a trip to see unicorns or dragons, but I promise no trips to Briarwood or Terreille, either.

SiP-verse is pretty much real-world if a bit more cartoony at times, so I don't think modern-day Houston or a farmhouse in Tennessee would make a useful stop, though if the partner-in-crime has a thought I missed, plz correct me!
Buffyverse is huge-riffic in cast and others who actually have a character living there would probably be better choices for deciding if they want it as a setting, but if so, I'm cool with it. And probably available to help NPC, depending on timing.
Emmett's totally real-world (barring dream sequences) so unless y'all could stand a week in Pittsburgh just to go gay clubbing, probably not helpful. (Stopover on Liberty Ave for a night because Portalocity tosses everybody there and whoever had that week's real setting could use the day off from coming up with a post? I could see that, if people wanted it.)
For an 'accidental' setting, I'd be cool with offering Neverwhere's London Below. I could bring Door back as an NPC for that leg of the trip, and let her guide people around. (FH or canon, either way.) Ooooor offer up the people who *usually* sell their services as guides. They call themselves Velvets. They drink life-force. (I'd beg for as much NPC help as anyone familiar with that universe would like to give, too.)
ETA: And I can't offer up Newtech City on my own since it's not even my canon, but if the other residents feel like hosting a stop, I'm all for it and available to help!

If that were to happen, I'd offer my services as an NPC.
