It's time for brains to storm! Who needs some stupid San Diego based convention and everything it entails? WE HAVE A BRAINSTORMING POST. THAT'S TOTALLY MORE FUN. BECAUSE I SAID SO, SO THERE.

READING THE CON PREVIEW IN ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY IS TOTALLY THE SAME AS BEING THERE, RIGHT?

Okay, I've been kicking an idea around in my head for a while for a plot but I need a specific Big Bad.

Specifically I need a fictional group known for kidnapping individuals and then experimenting on their subjects.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm... email me? I am planning to put Claire through bits of S3 canon and that sounds like the Company.

Oh, man, there's tons. I'm not that familiar with Dark Angel, there's always Manticore, right? And you'll have to consult with the Heroes people, but there's The Company, too.

I've got a couple more that are a bit more specific -- Katniss's Capitol is kind of notorious for that kind of thing -- but it'd probably just be easier for something more general? Though hey I am always up for making the Capitol look crazy.

Hey! Anything worthwhile gets posted online anyway, right?

I know, I'm reaching.

Weapon X leaps to mind, along with a handful of other groups in Marvel canon, but that sort of depends on the nature of the experimentation and what they're hoping to get out of it. Plus it requires the clearance of 12308910 million Marvel players in the game.

ShinRa is known for that one, too, but that's something that would have to be cleared with my canonmates, since it could potentially cause difficulties for the FFVII pups on the island already. (Hojo is batshit insane and likes to screw with people's DNA and worse, just for kicks, which is why it leapt to mind. Let's breed this Ancient girl with this red lion thing! That can't go wrong!)

BESIDES IT IS ALSO MY BIRTHDAY THIS WEEKEND. And everyone who isn't at con is invited. IT WILL BE MUCH AWESOMER. Especially since it is

I've been kind of chewing on the notion of a sort of inverted AU weekend, where instead of turning into people from other realities that our characters tie into on a meta level, our characters would be turning into themselves, but themselves as though they were born and raised in those AUs.

So, say, Zack shares a voice actor with Gippal, an Al Bhed character from Final Fantasy X. Zack would still be Zack, his usual bouncy optimistic slightly traumatized self, but instead of being a SOLDIER, he'd have grown up in the desert with the Al Bhed people being persecuted for his tendency to tinker with machina with a highly misunderstood heroic goal in mind. Still fundamentally Zack at the core, but interacting with the world with the knowledge of a different reality behind him.

An alternative could be a more general sort of FH-plot background shuffle for characters in the game. Grab a partner, take your own character, throw them into a pot, and shake until you end up with things like Anakin Skywalker: king of the sea, and Aquaman: Jedi.

I like this. The first idea more so than the latter, I think.

Well technically within the rules of AU Weekend, the first notion where Zack sharing a voice actor would allow him to be Gippal however I get what you're saying.

Zack would have the background of a different character linked by the same actor, correct?

Personally I like your second alternative as it's a bit simpler to manage in my mind. Also because Anakin wearing orange and green is amusing to me.

Yeah, rather than playing Gippal for a weekend, I'd be playing Zack with a thematically tweaked backstory that correlates with the world Gippal is from, connected by an actor, or a name, or whatever lines can be drawn to connect the dots, like they're connected with the usual AU weekend. So, more like Elizabeth Bennet: Zombie Hunter was than a complete swap over to being a new person entirely, if that makes more sense. She was Lizzy, with an axe, killing zombies, but still Lizzy.

The Plot of Evil Exes!

So you're happily in a relationship, or just about to get into one with that special someone. And you think from here on out, it'll be all easy and kisses and pink hearts and tralalala as you traipse through fields of flowers holding hands with your sweetie? Well you're wrong. Because who's that, lurking in the shadows? That's right, it's your sweetie's ex! Or maybe even several of them! And you're not going to be able to be sickeningly cute with your beloved before you've defeated them! And they kind of want to kill you!

... So, yeah. This idea is based on theScott Pilgrim series of graphic novels and the upcoming movie version of the same. Briefly, for those of you who don't know it: 20-something Scott falls in love the mysterious Ramona Flowers, but before they can properly date, he has to defeat her seven evil exes, ranging from an action movie star to a half-ninja. For more, read the books. They're awesome.

I haven't been thinking about this for too long, so I'm still a lot hazy on all the details. But. In the source material the exes, once defeated (ie killed, pretty much), turn into coins, in good old-fashioned video game style. So, I'm thinking the attacking exes wouldn't necessarily be the real ones, but maybe a kind of an illusion conjured up by Fandom to... test the strength of love on the island, or something. This would also allow the exes to be super evil versions of themselves. And turn into coins. You get to choose what the ex was worth!

I'm also thinking each ex could have a specific (probably canon-based) weak point the current SO would have to work out to defeat them, whether it be just your basic punch to the teeth, or something like a deathly allergy to the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. Crack potential!

So, this is the basic idea. And I'm still trying to figure out a way to extend this to include people who are currently single. Because why should the people in relationships get all the fun?

This idea brought to you by my re-reading of Scott Pilgrim and watching the trailers, and my desire to NPC Ben and Gene from USoT. I also just had a super sugary pastry, so I can't even tell how much sense I'm making. Also holy crap I got talky.

As someone who plays a character with an ex who is canonically batshit insane, I like this idea. Lots. :D

...okay the idea of Fraser having to beat up Robin's exes, including Ted and possibly Sandy Rivers, fills me with so much joy I can't even tell you.
