Game Madness Returns: Capture The Flag!

Do you like looking for things such as flags while chaos unfolds around you? Do you enjoy playing a game that involves being part of a team? How about tackling or otherwise using your strength and/or powers to try to prevent members of the other team(s) from succeeding? If you answered yes to one or all of these questions, look no further, because Capture the Flag is coming to an island near you!

* Actually it's coming to an island potentially pretty far from you, depending on where you live. But your characters live right there. So distance doesn't really matter.

The Game

On Saturday, June 8, Fandom will be having another one of those all-day game extravaganzas set all across the island: Capture the Flag. Several teams of 4-6 characters each will be pieced together in advance, and each team will be assigned a part of the island to use as their home base and hide their flag. Each team will have its own flag, and the goal of every player will be to capture a flag belonging to another team.

Sound easy? Weeeell, there are just a few things that make it a little tricky.

- This game allows for power usage and weapon usage that won't actually kill anyone, and Fandom denizens being Fandom denizens, a lot of them are probably going to more than hold their own, and
- No one is actually going to emerge victorious with any flags, because winning isn't everything RNGing a winner would be hard gremlins are going to steal all of them at some point in the madness.

So really, this game is just going to be a lot of chaos with no winner. Kind of like Paintball last year!

On game day, there will be one big post with OCD establishing where different teams are located and who's on each one, etc. Someone from each team will need to ping in stating where their flag is located, where their jail is, etc. You're also welcome to make your own posts in your own team's territory or otherwise, but if anything of significance happens, you might want to link it back to the original post. For instance, if a fight somewhere else results in Character A getting put in Character B's team's jail, it might make sense for Character A to ping into the jail section of Team B's OCD so that players from Team A can know they're needed to do a jailbreak. Et cetera.

The Rules

Standard Capture the Flag rules apply, modified slightly for Fandom players: every team will have a territory and a flag that they want to protect from being stolen, while also trying to steal a flag belonging to any of the other teams. To achieve that, you can basically go nuts: hang out by your own flag and obviously defend it; head off out of your territory and try to fight your way to where another team is hiding their flag; get "captured" and put in another team's "jail" relatively early in the game and hope you can overhear some of their strategy. The works.

Being captured (let's call this "bested in a fight," or, if your specific character isn't the type to fight back, just kind of peacefully escorted over to the jail) on another team's territory means that you have to hang out in their "jail," AKA some patch of grass or building or whatever that that team has designated for that purpose, until such time as someone else from your team can make it all the way to the jail untagged and institute a "jailbreak." Until then, people in jail are more than welcome to snark at their captors or perhaps use powers to set blades of grass on fire, because obviously.

Powers and weapons are allowed, but don't seriously injure anyone. Sam Traynor is running this game, and if she sees you getting too rough with anyone, she'll get scoldy. For example, two characters can fight with swords if they want to, but maybe not if only one player is armed and the other one is just going to go to town on them. Be civilized.

Finally, just like in paintball, Caritas, as a violence-free zone, will be a free area: no attacking anyone there and no hiding flags there; just good old-fashioned civilized drinking. April will be bartending and will have all kinds of eyeroll for you if you try anything.

Sign-Ups

ICly, characters can just show up in time for the game and handwavily be put on a team, given a flag, and assigned a section of the island to set up shop in. OOCly, however, you need to sign up your character in the OCD thread below to be put onto a team so that I can arrange teams in advance. In your sign-up ping, you're welcome to have another character sign up with yours to be on the same team, or to have another character sign up to specifically not be on your character's team. Please communicate OOCly before signing up any pairs of characters in either of those ways.

In order to be RNGed onto a team, please sign up by Tuesday, June 4 at 11:59 PM Central Time. The following morning, you can expect an email or several in your inbox designating your characters' teams and who their teammates are. I recommend communicating amongst yourselves in the reply-all to start to figure out in advance where your team will hide their flag and maybe what role the rest of your team can expect from your character as a part of the team (defense/offense/whathaveyou), etc. This isn't necessary, but it might help things run smoothly on game day.

Remember, in order to participate, you must sign up so I can put you on a team!

Questions? Comments? Someone to sign up? Puppy pictures? Lay 'em on me.
