I want to dismiss this as completely unrealistic, but it could actually work. I mean, let's assume that Topher eventually found out that she's the clone of a guy. That's at least interesting from his side. And just Topher being Topher (even after maturing a bit) and doing whatever he does (I leave it up to you to decide if she would know what he does, knowing that she's a high ranking spy) is enough reason to raise the kid on her own when she has some hugely pressing responsibilities.

I can't really see them having had a real relationship, but I could buy a couple weeks with unexpected consequences.

I think I'm sold on this.

Yeah, the clone thing would totally fascinate him! Plus she's smart and sciencey and hero types fascinate him! And, I mean, he's completely irresponsible enough to have left her with the kid instead of taking tiny Peter to live with him at his cushy, well-paying job in safe, supervillain-free Los Angeles.

He would maaaaybe be generous enough to "hire" (read: program) a nanny for her? SO THAT'S SOMETHING.

Meanwhile, Topher is... well, I can't think of what would draw Jessica to him. He's funnyish and talks science in bed?

If it was just a few weeks, I feel like he probably wouldn't have given her a ton of information about his job, most likely figuring that she's a heroey type and probably would not receive it well anyway, but if you want her to have found out on her own via handwavy hacking funtimes, that's totally cool. Otherwise, she could probably just have a hunch that it's morally shady and science-related, because it's Topher and that's a pretty small leap. Barely a leap at all, really.

...The more I think about this, the more I love it.

Sometimes when two hearts collide, even briefly, it's magic. Maybe they were at the same Fandom alumni event and made it through some weirdness together and something sparked. And then they realized it was completely unsustainable and were like, "Okay, this is over, right? It's just kind of weird being together?" And then a short time later, Jess noticed that something had changed.

I'm down with the nanny thing. That's great and solves a couple issues about being in charge of the country's superhumans while raising a kid.

How about Jessica kind of has an impression that whatever he's doing is sketchy enough for her to not want to go near it because she has enough to worry about? He gives no information, she asks for none, but it's all the more reason to accept Topher's irresponsibility and keep Peter with her.

Seriously, this works out way too well for the kinds of things I wanted to have happen, so thanks for suggesting it. :D

Oh, wow, yes. Maybe there was something attacking during an alumni event, Topher had a rare moment of badassery while Jessica was just badass like she always is, they took it out together, and SPARKS FLEW.

Jessica not asking and Topher not telling sounds good to me! Peter is probably getting the better deal, since Topher's universe is juuuust about to teeter into a Topher-induced apocalypse, so.

WHEE. I am excited. This shall be awesome. :D
