Upcoming Event! The Flood!

Hey, folks. Over the next few days, we're going to be having a lot of fun modding the weather because we have a very special event coming up next weekend (March 10-11). Fandom is going to be experiencing a flood. Fandom being Fandom, the flood is just the start of the fun, but you'll have more details on that in the coming days. Just for now we want to let people know the basics and how it might affect them.

*In general: Some portions of the island are going to be several feet under water. Some portions will be above water. The ground can shift and these things can happen for a weekend. Areas like the park will definitely go under, so if you're thinking about visiting it next weekend, take a life vest.

*Students: The pool will not be the only place you can go swimming. You may also note that the shore got a lot closer. The school and dorms will remain safe and dry, though. Well, relatively dry. It's still going to be raining a lot.

*Townies: Your businesses and homes may get flooded. The extent of the flooding at your homes/businesses is up to you, of course, and there will be water transportation made available to people so that they can go about their lives relatively unbothered by the event. Housing will also be provided to people who get flushed out. Please let us know the extent of the flooding you want to happen by Tuesday and we may contact you to see if you want to play host to some other wacky stuff.

*Teachers: You live in town. See Townies.

Things will be back to normal (well, normal plus somewhat damp) next Monday, March 12. Give us a couple days and we'll give some more details about the fun that's in store for people.

Minimal OCD is coming up.

Ground floor at Mansion at 15 Griffin Way needs flooding!

Provided the other inhabitants of 18 Apocalypse Avenue are willing to help move books out of the danger zone (...it might take a while), I put up Yomiko's basement for flooding.

Jarod will help, but I have limited availability on both days (6 pm-12 pm).

Aiden totally gets a love of the books, so she'd also be happy to help out.

On behalf of all of the residents of 33 Apocalypse Ave (except Pickwick, who is most displeased), I'm authorised to say bring on the water!

Hope I'm not stepping on any toes but it'd be fun to see Rose swim to class in 50 Minotaur Lane B

Heyla!

As sort of landlord, my only thought on this would be check with your other two roommates and see if they're okay with 50-B getting flooded. If not, maybe something like what MCA is doing, where there could be significant rain damage to just Rose's room might work?

Hey Leo's up for that! He needs to update his stock anyway.

Help convince Miho to pack up and leave: flood the Sin!

Clinging to the ninja has traditionally been deadly to your health, save, in one remarkable instance, Dwight, but there was a tar pit involved then and also she owes him her life.

Flood the church! Rosette can hold special baptisms!

((technically, the church basement is Rosette's home, but I'll just include in here that anything there is okay for flooding too, from her room to the kitchen, to the countless supply closets and secret passages))

Flood the Post Office, please! It has basements as yet unexplored that could have things wash out of them if needed.

Moist can move the mail into the clock tower, and Gladys is seven foot tall and near nigh indestructible, so she can ford through the water to deliver the mail.

Also, if you might need a golem for anything else? Moving heavy stuff, or whatnot, Moist will make her available to get in good with everybody as part of his civic duty.

You can have ABIS. Aiden hasn't had to redecorate the place in a while.

Feel free to wash the entirety of Venture Industries away. Dr. V won't be around to witness the flood first hand (as I won't be around most of the weekend), but some major damage would fit well into what I'm doing with him. Thanks.

[identity profile] thebluespirit.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You can flood Blood Gulch. The weapons' storage will probably stay dry, though, and no one is getting in there.

Re: I would like my stuff to stay dry. I would like to opt out.

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
50-A Minotaur Lane will not be flooding. But if the residents of 50-B want to be flooded, Phale can do something handwavy to keep the water out of just his half of the house.

Much as I would love to see Andrew and the rest of the guard freaking out, I think I'd better opt out. I'll be out of town, and couldn't give it the attention it deserves. Consider 28 Sphinx Street very well-sandbagged. Erm, surrounded by sandbags. =)

I'd like MCA to stay dry, at least on the inside - there's an open apartment that Xander would be happy to offer to refugees, though. Conviently, it's the huge one with the closet that cleans and presses your clothes for you.

(If any MCA resident *wants* to be flooded, we can work it out as a window getting left open or something (*thanks Deanthetick for this idea*), but I already know the basement and sub-basement peeps don't, and the first floor is Xander.)

Re: I would like my stuff to stay dry. I would like to opt out.

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-03-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Addendum: the *outside* could be be submerged up to whatever y'all think is a reasonable level, though, with sealife swimming past the windows; that'd be fine! People would just have to come and go by boat, and get into the building via the fire escape at whatever floor the water got up to.

[identity profile] blonde-doctor.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I actually would like Elliot to get flooded out, but she's on the 4th floor. Would an open window work for her, or do I just need to let go of this idea?

Re: I would like my stuff to stay dry. I would like to opt out.

[personal profile] needsaparrot 2007-03-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
4th floor is the top floor, so you might be out of luck on that one, since that'd be pretty close to 'completely submerged'. She could probably have water damage from rain coming in, but actual flood levels getting up that high wouldn't work.

Re: I would like my stuff to stay dry. I would like to opt out.

[identity profile] blonde-doctor.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I figured, but I just wanted to ask. Rain damage will probably work fine.

I would say flood Luke's, but being as I've got other things planned for Yitzhak that weekend, the diner can stay dry.

And be open for soggy refugees who don't mind being glared at (or if they're willing, have Yitzhak mess with their stuff in passive-aggressive nasty brat ways).

Please to be keeping the clinic dry. Our current coma patient would probably appreciate it. ;)

We could supply the patient with an inflatable mattress!

My kids won't be around that weekend and I would highly appreciate if no one brings up the flood with them afterwards. Personal reasons. Thanks.

I have one very important question.

If there's going to be a huge fuckoff flood, is Noah going to come through on a speedboat?

Re: I have questions, comments, or concerns.

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2007-03-04 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure who mentioned this to me, but someone wanted to see Rosette try to build an ark. I fully endorse this idea :D

No. Ah.

Look, it's early, that there is top shelf comedy to me right now.

Just remember, floppy ears on the sides.

Short ears, inside the boat.

And yeah, I'm still not-awake enough that I gigglesnorted too.
