Plot Beta Volunteers
YOU! You have creativity, you have insight, you have a critical eye Gomez, take that out of his mouth and you want to share it! YOU, yes, YOU can be a plot beta.
Basically plot betas are folks who don't mind lending a hand to their fellow players when said fellow players are trying to put together a... what's the word... oh yeah, plot.
Plots can be big or weetiny, in need of mod approval or merely in need of some tweaking. If it needs some outside input, it can be betaed!
Things that a plot beta could do:
1) Point out possible problems, both OOC or IC
2) Suggest improvements
3) Suggest ways to include fandoms the plot runner might not be familiar with
4) Give me pie
The list is endless! And all this at NO COST TO YOU! I, of course, am willing to accept both tips and bribes. You can't. Not unless you give me a cut of it. Sorry, but that's the way of the world.
If you are interested in signing up to be a plot beta sign up in the handy-dandy OCD thread. Folks can then use the information there to contact you if they'd like some betaing help.
Note: plot betas have no l33t mod connection. Just because a plot beta thinks your story is made of awesome does not necessarily mean the mods will approve it. Likewise just b/c they hate it does not necessarily mean the mods will too. Using a plot beta is not a requirement of running a plot, it's just available if you should want one. See your doctor if you feel dizzy, or have sudden bursts of song. Offer void where prohibited.
[wait for OCD plz OCD is up. Note: this is not the post for those who want to volunteer to help run plots. That post is here. This is beta help only.]

I wanna be a plot beta!
1) Your plotting strengths
2) Your plotting weaknesses
3) Fandoms you are familiar with
4) The best way to contact you
5) Anything else a plot runner should know
6) What kind of pie you will be providing me. Cakes are also acceptable.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) More than, say, five characters involved and you've kind of lost me.
3) I'm not familiar with anime, but it's been on the WB/CW/Fox/Sci-Fi/network television, I've probably seen it. I'm good with Jossverse, Sorkinland, VMars, Gilmore Girls, Farscape, Supernatural, BSG, Dark Angel, X-Files, Pirates, and Star Wars. I spend a *lot* of time watching movies, too, so ping me and I might know the reference, too.
4) Email is best: emopadawan@gmail
5) I enjoy pie, too.
6) Will Banana Rum Cream Pie be acceptable?
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2. I tend to go back and forth regarding the amount of detail a plot needs in Fandom and what needs to occur.
3. Charmed, BTVS, Firefly, Marvel and DC comic continuity for the most part, Twin Peaks, Star Wars (Movies Only), Gilmore Girls.
4. E-mail. It's on my contact sheet.
5. A good plot isn't always about you. It's about the people who help you get to the conclusion. Don't forget to looks for ways that a particular character outside your fandom can help you reach your goals.
6. Carrot Cake. Pecan Pie.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
1. Brainstorming, generally knowing what works well for large groups.
2. At times kind of 'out there' with ideas
3. Nearly any anime fandom (if I don't know it, I've at least generally heard of it.), Star Wars, Mercedes Lackey books, BTVS, Harry Potter, Disney, Many many rpg video games and probably other things that I'm not thinking of.
4. Email: Apocolypse _ Iris @ yahoo . com or aim: Yondaime ninja
5. I'm always willing to help with things, probably just wanna make sure I'm doing okay. IE: Health gunk.
6. I will make you mini cheesecake! Which whatever filling you wish! Ask Kry, they're delicious~
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Haven't really run many big plots
3) Oy. Um, Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Farscape, Harry Dresden, BSG, The Pretender, Profiler, Charmed, Angel, Buffy, Firefly/Serenity, The West Wing, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, Dark Angel, X-Files, Alias, many movies and other tv shows I've forgotten; No Power Rangers, Final Fantasy, or Anime knowledge, and am weak on comics, but if you tell me what you're looking for, I might be able to help/suggest something/someone.
4) E-mail. charlotteb1973 (at) gmail (dot) com
5) I will eventually have to go back to work and won't be as available.
6) Key Lime (http://www.keylimeshop.com/html/key_lime_pie.html)
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Your plotting weaknesses: Anything to do with romance, seriously. Also, about 3/4 of the stuff I do come up with can get tossed fairly quickly due to being too cracky or too full of holes.
3) Alphabetically: Angel, Animorphs, Buffy, Charmed, Dead Like Me, Doctor Who, Emelan series, Firefly, Good Omens, Harry Potter, Heroes, Medium, Pretender, Taken, Torchwood, Tortall series, Star Wars (If it has magic or sci fi in, you can bet I've at least heard of it. No anime or comic knowledge, but I have seen tons of random movies with a tendency towards older ones or ones where "stuff goes boom")
4) AIM: VioletLightFaith is the fastest, e-mail: LanaKonte @ hotmail.com if I'm not on, but I only check that account ever two days. I'm trying to get better.
5) My availability is usually fairly high, unless it's midterm/final time.
6) Cheesecake. It's a pie, Alton Brown said so!
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) My plots are usually very small therefore no experience with running the really big ones
3) Wow, um: Marvel, DC, Vertigo, Jossverse, Supernatural, Dark Angel, more anime than I care to admit, Discworld, Dune, Star Trek, Star Wars (Movies, that weird cartoon, comics), variety of cartoons, anything written by Neil Gaiman, Xena/Hercules... I feel like such a dork now.
4) E-mail: bestshedevil@gmail.com or on AIM: bestshedevil
5) I'm a dork?
6) Will Chocolate Heart of Darkness Lava cake be acceptable?
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Sometimes get overcomplicated, yeah.
3) *takes breath*
Alias, BSG, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Farscape, VR.5, Forever Knight, Highlander, Pretender, Stargate SG-1 & SG-A, X-Men (movies, and some comic canon), X-Files, West Wing, Veronica Mars, Dresden Files, SPN, 24, Charmed, Pirates, Harry Potter. No Power Rangers, Final Fantasy, or Anime knowledge.
4) email! On the info page.
5) Availability is good, unless it's Finals time. I'll be jobhunting through the summer.
6) Chocolate pie! And strawberry pie. And possibly pumpkin, if you like that.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
Heroes, Doctor Who, Torchwood
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Big and complex, multi-character, long-running stuff is a bit much for my easily distracted -- oo, shiny -- brain to hash out.
3) Battlestar Galactica, Jossverse, first-season Charmed, any Power Rangers series except Wild Force, Super Sentai from Dekaranger through Boukenger, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek (except DS9, OMG, don't kill me, and Enterprise), Dead Like Me, some Six Feet Under, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Heralds of Valdemar, Young Wizards, about the first half of the Tortall series and the Trickster books, liiiiiiiiiiittle bit of Marvel Comics, Xena/Hercules, Strangers in Paradise, the Chrestomanci books, Forgotten Realms (*is embarrassed*), Heroes, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Bend It Like Beckham, RENT, Chronicles of Narnia . . . I'm sure I'm missing a ton. I am a fannish butterfly. Will add more later when I notice they're missing.
Sci-fi/fantasy in general, really, both books and TV, and some movies.
4) Email's probably the best way: rpg . shanie @ gmail . com. Also pingable on AIM at FutureBucsStar, or GTalk at the above address; I'm usually on all day at work from both.
5) My weekday availability is all over the charts; I could have more time on my hands than I know what to do with, or I could be completely unavailable during the day. Weeknights and weekends, I'm more or less good almost all the time. I will very likely be relocating out of state in early to mid-May, though, so may be very limited on availability around that time.
6) Cupcakes. With sprinkles. SHOCKING, I KNOW.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Never really run one before, I suck at coming up with original ideas, and I am not good with the crack.
3) Doctor Who, Torchwood, Valdemar, leetle bit of Marvelverse (mainly older X-men), some DC Vertigo (Sandman, Preacher, Books of Magic, Dreaming, most Sandman off-shoots), Bone, Discworld, anything by Neil Gaiman, Jossverse, Sorkinverse, Dresden files (book and TV), Honor Harrington, Miles Vorkosigan, Anita Blake (shut up!), most BBC comedies, Life on Mars, Star Trek (DS9 & Voyager), Tamora Pierce, Tanya Huff, Windling's Borderlands series, Jasper Fforde's books, DeLint's Newford, Tom Holt's books, Simon R Green (Blue Moonverse and Nightside) but I read SF&F voraciously and watch a *lot* of TV, so even if I'm not hugely conversant with it, I've probably at least read/seen it. I know not of Anime, Power Rangers, Star Wars, other Treks or comics, and I'm just learning Stargate and Farscape.
4) time(dot)agent(at)gmail.com
5) Aussie time zone and I have serious OCD issues, as in 'Yay let's plan EVERYTHING', but I can be reigned in.
6) You're getting Pavlova (http://www.joyofbaking.com/Pavlova.html), which is sort of like pie, only awesomer!
[shh, it was always here]
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) I'm not good at running and organizing things, especially when they get big or really dark.
3) The otaku in me reads tons of manga and watches a lot of anime, especially shoujo series, but not seinen ones. I'm familiar with a lot of books & literature, Disney stuff, musicals, BDs, cartoon shows, and most of the popular movies represented IG. I don't watch a lot of TV, and I've never been all that interested in American comics, so those are fandoms I'd need to learn more about.
4) Through my game email or IM. Both are listed on my profile page.
5) I'm not usually around during the daytime EST, although I can and do stay up until crazy o'clock at night.
6) Both a traditional apple pie, and a delicious lemon meringue, with optional ice cream or whipped cream on the side.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Your plotting weaknesses: I can sometimes overplan things.
3) Fandoms you are familiar with: Charmed, Buffy/Angel, Firefly, X-Men (movies), Gilmore Girls, House, Veronica Mars, Psych, Heroes, Supernatural, 24, Stargate SG1, Smallville, various Broadway shows, various book/movie fandoms.
4) The best way to contact you: Email - roleplayingjen(at)gmail(dot)com or AIM - veronicamarsFH
5) Anything else a plot runner should know: I'm usually around via email to chat, but I go to bed around 10p EST.
6) What kind of pie you will be providing me. Cakes are also acceptable.: What kind of pie do you want? :)
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Your plotting weaknesses -- I sometimes get trapped into wanting to make the PCs work for the solution too much (I love puzzles and want to make people solve them).
3) Fandoms you are familiar with -- Charmed, Nip/Tuck, Profiler, Buffy, Angel, BSG (old and new), Heroes, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Forever Knight, Xena, V, Star Wars, Star Trek (TOS mostly, TNG some), Firefly, Farscape, PotC, Dr Who (including old school), some comics knowledge (DC Vertigo, Legion of Superheroes, Teen Titans, X-Men), and too many books and movies to list. No anime.
4) The best way to contact you -- kajivar (at) kajivar (dot) com.
5) Anything else a plot runner should know -- A half dozen pixie stix washed down with Mountain Dew is the breakfast of champions when running at LARP.
6) What kind of pie you will be providing me. Cakes are also acceptable. -- Chocolate creme!
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
...Yes, yes it is. And anyone who says otherwise is on the bad type of crack.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
Until I got stuck in the snake costume.
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) I have a limit to what my brain can handle in plot size. Namely in that if it's a lot of activity with a lot of people involved. over a period of more than a month, I'm probably not your girl.
3) Farscape (of course), Star Wars, Buffy, Firefly, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, enough of Gilmore Girls to get by, Hopeless Savages, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, The Tick, X-Men, enough of the Marvel verse to have a clue what you're talking about, Runaways, Heroes, Discworld, Stargate SG1, and even if I don't know the fandom, I'm good at catching stuff and pointing things out from a newbie perspective.
4) E-mail works best (can_be_more@livejournal.com), or I can be reached by IM (chickwithemo)
5) Have a goal in mind and we'll get along fine. =)
6) Lemon merangue.
Hi, I hit enter early!
Re: I wanna be a plot beta!
2) Soooo bad at fight scenes.
3) Buffy, Angel, Heroes, Veronica Mars, The Office (US & UK), House, Deadwood, The Riches, Big Love, Rescue Me, Blackadder, West Wing, Queer as Folk (US), Sandman, Discworld, Anne Rice books (God help me), Jeeves & Wooster, Firefly - things of that nature. Things I'm not good at would be anime, scifi shows, and comic books. (General familiarity with that last one, but by no means an expert.)
4) Email at thebratq at gmail dot com
5) My coherence and availability are intermittent things, and are often parts of a Venn diagram that has very little overlap. So if you need someone to spend a lot of time helping you out with your plot I may or may not be able to do it. Feel free to ask, but I might need to say no. OTOH a quick "Does this make sense? Do you have any suggestions?" is nearly always going to be okay.
6) None. Instead I shall feed myself Ben & Jerry's which is sitting right next to me. Karamel Sutra, mmmmmmm.

I finally got through Buffy S7 last month. I still have 2 seasons of Angel to work through though. But I started sometime last spring.
Anything else?
Re: Anything else?
OOC
Re: OOC
Re: OOC
Basically the idea behind the fandom list is twofold: it lets plot runners know who's familiar with their fandom, and it lets them know who's familiar with fandoms they don't know.
So if I needed somebody who was familiar with, say, Heroes, I could look for someone who listed that. OTOH if I was hoping to include input from fandoms I'm not familiar with, I'd look for people who listed those.
So basically any fandom you'd feel comfortable contributing info on for a beta.
I'd say limit it to those who are in Fandom already but lord knows who's around the corner. ;)
