Yep, it's that time again -- getcher monthly open brainstorm session going here!

Please note: this is the GENERAL brainstorming post. Please don't use this for BDE brainstorming -- there will be a separate post going up for that purpose so keep an eye out for that one if you want to get your bitey AUverse brainstorming on. This post be for everything that isn't BDE-related.

Jack will probably accept most bets and dares. Just saying.

Throwing my girl in here as her role as a walking plot device. If you need a certain situation to happen in the game, Layla's your girl. Want to avoid/re-enact/rework/implode canon? She can manipulate whatever events that might happen to your liking. Or she can freak out tour character with horrifying details of their future. Your choice!

[livejournal.com profile] divinesurfchick and I have been discussing this idea, and since it's largely my idea I'm taking the liberty of talking about it here. (If she doesn't like that, she can smack me in the head for it later.)

Anyway. There's an insane third season Xena episode called "Fins, Femmes, and Gems" (http://whoosh.org/epguide/fins.html) (that we were talking about in the State of the Characters post a couple of days ago). The basic premise of the episode is that Aphrodite has stolen the North Star to create her own constellation, and as a result the entire world is going to end up being severely directionally challenged. Xena, Gabrielle, and Joxer set out to stop her and get the North Star back, so to foil them she makes each of them end up obsessed with something to the point where they can't focus on anything else -- Xena looks at a fish and wants to do nothing but go fishing, Gabrielle looks in a mirror and becomes completely obsessed with herself, and Joxer (doomed to being perennial stupid comic relief guy) becomes obsessed with a story about an ape man and ends up swinging around vines in the forest and eating bugs. And yet despite all this they have to try and pull off the mission anyway.

Now, this has already happened a long, long time ago in [livejournal.com profile] divinesurfchick's timeline, and is a way off in Gabrielle's, but Aphrodite's still got the Obsession perfume (hee) that caused the insanity in the first place.

So I'm proposing a plot along similar lines in game: a small group of people have a mission to accomplish, someone has reasons to try and keep them from succeeding, Aphrodite's bottle of Obsession comes into play, and somehow that group has to get the job done anyway. Per canon, each person's obsession is actually rooted in some insecurity or sense of something left undone (Xena and her dead brother once vowed they'd catch this one particular fish and never did, Gabrielle feels like nobody takes her seriously enough) and the spell is broken when they come to terms with the unfinished business or admit to the insecurity.

It'd be total crack, and I think it'd be fun.

*g*

Maybe people watching the video so many times somehow creates a visible or invisible choir that follows people around and sings what they are doing? Or causes others to sing what their friends are doing?

Or going the other way, an invasion of an army of Fonzie clones, glee clubs of the damned, half-naked boys dancing in furry diapers, spinning ninjas, random fencers, wine-drinking douchebags, dove tossers, shirtless boys (oh never mind, we have that all the time), surprise mirrors, filling Arthur's helmet with gold glitter, blind possessed choir boys....

Considering the entire video takes place in a demented boarding school setting, I vote for the latter.

Not really a spare part, but I have way too much fun having Gabrielle break people's brains by casually mentioning her random encounters with historical/mythological characters, so if anyone (who would know of these people, that is) wants some cracky brain-breakage, feel free to drop me a line. ;)

I've also been toying (meaning I've casually mentioned it here and there) with the idea of Umbridge coming back somehow. Look, the bitch has a lot of powers, SC can't keep her down for too long.

And she's got enough Death Eater friends that they could get her a new wand to solve that problem. Of course, she couldn't go the same route as last time, pretending to be a headmaster so I've also been toying with the idea of having her show up in disguise (a la polyjuice potion thank you HP canon). No one would be able to recognize her unless she ran out (and she wouldn't until she decided she didn't need the disguise anymore).

I think I'd keep her from actually being a teacher because that'd just give it away too fast but maybe have her set up some temporary spot in town and lure (which sound so sordid) kids and adults to do her dirty work on or to convince them to do it for her.

Of course, she gets found out, exposed, banished/killed and that's that but she's awesome fun for me to play and I know a looooot of people didn't get to play off her last time that are here now.

And that's a lot more than I thought I'd write but the ideas are percolating!

That could tie into that power-drainy-token idea we (and I recognize this may be a "we" that means "I") keep poking at, couldn't it? I think it could use an Umbridge to run things in town for the Big Bad.

I've been thinking of trying to organize a trip to Busch Gardens or King's Dominion, but Six Flags might be more convenient location wise.

Day of the Triffids plot! I forget if I've mentioned this to anyone before.

A METEOR SHOWER [temporarily] blinds everyone who sees it. Then GIANT WALKING PLANTS invade and the residents have to fight them off while blind. Basic invasion plot, really, but it'd force everyone to use different senses and find ways to improvise.

ETA: This could also be a way for non-fighty characters to be heavily involved in a fighty plot. If, say, Francine was the only one left with vision, she'd be invaluable to the fighty folk

Duuuuuuuude, I had so much fun with Minsc in Mina's recent plot that he's making sure I include here that I'm open for him being involved in all types of shit, especially if a big guy ranger/tracker could be needed to hunt things and or just hit things and or be there just for comedic effect, because, seriously, I get him on an adventure and he's just a tall glass of pure crack, and the Minsc-in-my-head was all warm and full of love because he got to go on ADVENTURES! So yes.

I'm actually really digging the idea of a 'Revenge on Fandom' plot. Like, a team up of various bad guys that have been repelled in various plots, all pooling their resources thinking that this time, they'll have what they were missing last time, and they'll be able to take whatever they're after.

...this is a very vague idea, admittedly.

Ooh I like this a lot. Plus it sounds like it would be a good one day fighty type invasion thing which gives the fighty folks an outlet - like the harpies were.

It could always be a variation on the soundtrack random effect. Only this time, the soundtrack sings what's going on.

Which, alas, would involve no mullets with headlights or dove tossers.
