I seem to recall that eons and eons ago, there was a pets save the day plot in the works, but it got dropped. Having just read Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockjaw_and_the_Pet_Avengers), I say DO IT.
