Brainstorming Time!

Um, I might have spaced on this last month, but... holidays, so yay? Anyway! I know SOMEONE has been waiting for this, and I am in no way looking pointedly at YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Here be your more-or-less monthly brainstorming post, wherein you do that thing. With the suggesting new ideas and possibly developing on previously proposed ones.

Being a semi-newbie, I'm not sure if anything like this has been done here before, but I was thinking of fun ways to torment students and I came up with this:

So, a lot of high schools do career placement tests just for fun, and I was thinking, what if Fandom had one of those? Only of course, being Fandom, the results would get all mixed up and everyone would get registered for workshops on careers that they most emphatically did not want. And the teachers and townies (and visiting alums, if they wanted?) would run the workshops, and they'd be all filled with baffled students who are all grouchy and "I wanted the opposite of this." So you have, say, Wesley in a workshop for florists, or Kennedy in a kindergarten teacher workshop, and stuff like that. Not that any career placement tests would tell you that you should be a florist. 'Cause florists are crazy.

So anyway, you have these confused and grouchy kids running around during Career Week, and then there could be some sort of practical exam that they would all do horribly on? I didn't really think out a resolution to this. Fail, self.

We've had career day before (including bringing in NPC characters among the teachers and townies) but never a paperwork mixup where people ended up in the wrong workshops! That sounds hilarious.

Oh man, I love this idea.

Thanks! I know it's kind of vague, so if you have any suggestions, lay 'em on me.

I wish I did, but my brain is kind of fail right now as my bed is making googly eyes at me. I just know I find it shiny!

It'd depend heavily on which characters could be convinced to teach a workshop, so it'd require some organisation upfront so you know in what direction to push your character.

Which isn't very helpful, but I'm not stuck with an image of groundskeeper Willie or principal Skinner giving workshops.

Gotcha. Alrighty, thanks!

Now, time to figure out how to run a plot...

Would 'career in evil' be an option? Because I have a character that I am thinking of apping as a townie that could run a great workshop on that, either as a townie or (if I don't get off my ass and app for a while) as an NPC guest.

You could always make an OOC post to solicit an interest check -- find out what teachers/townies/NPCs would be willing to host workshops, and go from there? (If you're allowing NPCs, which I think would be awesome.)

Um, totally, evilness would be an option. Hee.

Yeah, NPCs would be awesome too! And definitely for the interest check. Hmm, I've never run a plot before. Could be fun. :D

You could run it like one of the conventions we've had here -- MercCon, RockCon, CopCon, and so forth? I don't know if you were around for any of those.

I don't see your AIM posted -- hit me up at rikkutastic or fond of vowels? I've run one of those before and I probably still have links to all of it :)

Aaagh, I don't have AIM, tragically.

I'll root through the old plottery tags to get a sense of what that kind of thing entails, but maybe wanna email me some of your wisdom on the subject? :) watcherwesley at gmail dot com. Please and thank you!

Somewhere there's a Dinah Lance shaking a fist at you. As well as some girl in Boston, I'm betting. *hugs Miss Vida*

Anyway! I kind of love this idea too. It would be a great way for visiting alums to teach a very quick thing and move on. The Parker in my head wants to teach How To Manage a Rock Band, for instance.

Florists, groundskeeper, monk, chef, supervillain, stockbroker, evil stockbroker...
