Backstory: He's now the king of England, having taken over the identity of the Prince Regent following a disastrous duel with the Duke of Wellington during which the real prince, disguised as Edmund, got shot. Oh beautiful, beautiful canon.
Nobody but Baldrick knows he's not George IV, and Baldrick doesn't remember that he knows, after an extensive brainwashing campaign on Edmund's part. (It was that or kill him, and while the decision was difficult, Edmund had to eventually admit that he needed a complete prat around to make himself feel superior, and Baldrick was the top contender for that spot.)
How he could fit into your character's backstory: Edmund doesn't even write his mother; he's not writing anyone from Fandom. However, he's come back to the island a few times during his rise to power, so he could smuggle 21st Century technology back to the 18th/19th. So if you hung around on the island, you might have seen him a few times over the years before he stopped being Edmund. He hasn't come back since taking the throne.
