20 Years Reunion Brainstorming

A suggestion was made in the original info post to provide a brainstorming post for everyone to rattle off ideas, plan futures, coordinate relationships and whatever else might be needed for the plot!

And thus, the brainstorming post has been birthed and lo, we present it to you for all the storming of the brains you might need to do! Have fun planning!

I'll start off with my easier kid before trying to coordinate Ben :)

Name: Rilla Blythe Ford

Age at the Reunion: 34 (so she's coming from 1936, three years before World War II begins)

Backstory I've worked out so far: Rilla never graduated from Fandom High. When her brother Walter was killed in action in World War I during Rilla's junior year, she returned home to Canada to take care of her mother and reconnected with Kenneth Ford, an old family friend. They were married after the war was over, moved to Toronto, and had three children. Ken is a journalist and Rilla keeps house, is a member of the Ladies Aid, the Presbyterian choir, and writes very constantly to her brothers and sisters back in PEI.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: Rilla would have tried to keep writing letters to her friends from Fandom when she went back to Canada and probably invited them to her wedding. After she got married, correspondence would have gotten more sporadic. Please poke me here if you'd like your character to have been at the (very Edwardian) wedding/on Rilla's list of people she wrote to!

Name: Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin, though he'll have dropped the nickname by the reunion.

Age at the Reunion: 35. And 3000-something-he-loses-track. We'll get to that in a mo.

Backstory: Shortly after graduation, Ender embarked on his trip to Shakespeare Colony. It's a 50-year-trip on the outside, two years on the inside. To his horror, he found out the Admiral captaining the ship was planning to usurp his governorship by the time they got to the planet - and was monitoring him pretty closely. As a result, for two years he never got the chance to write, or get, anything from anyone from Fandom. By the time he got to the colony, he'd figured most of them were gone or would have forgotten him. He settled in for his life there, nearly killed himself shortly after his governorship, then basically spent twenty years 'skipping like a stone on the ocean of time' as Jane put it, as per Speaker for the Dead canon.

He's just another Speaker for the Dead now (the pseudo-religion he might have accidentally started, though no one knows it was him that did it) speaking the truth about the dead for those left behind, everyone else thinks of Ender the Xenocide as the worst war criminal ever, blah blah blah. He'll be showing up in Fandom halfway into his trip to the planet Lusitania, after leaving Valentine behind. *breathes*

How she could fit into your character's backstory: ...Not. He'll have vanished right after graduation. He won't have written, phoned, or visited anyone, figuring them dead, or at least too old to care anymore. He isn't even supposed to be here this weekend, but Jane undercut him. Bless. (He also looks somewhat like an older, scruffier, longer-haired version of izzyalienqueen's brother Max; it's cleared with her, but if that's an issue for anyone else, let me know too.)

Starting with the woeful-but-easier one.

Name: Tara Maclay

Age at the Reunion: N/A

Backstory I've worked out so far: She went to college in Sunnydale -- hey, tuition is cheap there, and she figured with the Hellmouth it might be almost as interesting as Fandom -- and canon pretty much played itself out from there. By which we mean: Fell in love with Willow, got her brain sucked out, got better, became a surrogate parent to Dawn, broke up with Willow, got back together with Willow, and was shot by a stray bullet at age 22.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: Well, obviously, she won't be at the reunion, but she would have kept in touch with everyone right up to her death. If your character would know what happened or would still miss her 15 years later, feel free to refer to that.

Name: Quinn Fabray

Age at the Reunion: 36, a few weeks shy of 37. But she'll say 35.

Backstory I've worked out so far: After Fandom, she went back to Ohio and enrolled at Ohio State, where she was social chair of her sorority, cheered on the varsity squad until she blew out an ankle, and got a degree in business. She kept dating the FH version of Puck, and they eventually got married and settled in the suburbs of Cleveland. She's a successful realtor there (because random canon ambitions are the best) and she and Puck have a daughter, Beth. Because the idea made me laugh a lot, Quinn will be about seven months pregnant with their second child.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: I doubt she was the best correspondent in the world, but I'm sure she friended people on Facebook and probably invited anybody she trusted to behave themselves to her wedding. Let me know if you want to work out anything more detailed!

Name: Ben Skywalker

Age at Reunion: 36...ish. He travels fairly frequently through the multiverse, so it's possible he's missed count on a birthday here or there.

Backstory I've worked out so far: After writing to Ender weekly for five years with no reply (DAMN YOU, ENDER), Ben finally got the hint and moved on (ish) with his life. He became a member of Karla's Court in Glacia, is something of a wingman for Tony Stark (though he fails miserably at chatting up hot Russian models) and still has time to head home for various Jedi adventures. He works closely at home with his cousin Allana, doesn't like to talk about the thing he almost had with a Sith named Vestara and generally uses his jumping between universes as an excuse to have not had a meaningful relationship in about twenty years.

So he's still an expert at repressing.

He's kept in touch with the various versions of his family members (and Tahiri) and is currently trying to grow an Obi-Wan-esque beard. It looks fairly stupid, not gonna lie.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: If you've spent time in Karla's or Tony's universe in the last twenty years, you'd have run into Ben. You'd also know that Ender is a sore spot.

Name: Faramir, Prince of Ithilien, Steward of Gondor, Lord of Emyn Arnen

Age at the Reunion: 37

Backstory I've worked out so far: Faramir will have gone through canon. The war of the ring was won. Boromir and his father are dead. Aragorn is king and Faramir was appointed as his Steward and received Ithilien as his princedom. He's married to Éowyn now and they have started rebuilding Emyn Arnen. There's still some fighting going on in Ithilien as Sauron's troops dispersed and the Haradrim are still at odds with Gondor.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: Faramir would have sent invitations for his marriage to his old friends, so let me know if you think they'd have attended. He'd also leave invitations to visit Ithilien. He'd be good at keeping in touch for the most part, but I assume there was a gap of a few years prior and during the war.

If someone is interested to have spent some time in Gondor as well, I'm cool with that. So far I know that Maladicta will play her role there, but they could have used all help to defend Gondor.

Name: Rudolf Wega

Age at the Reunion: 35

Backstory I've worked out so far: At some point during his time at Fandom, he broke up with Cally - or she left, we haven't ironed that out yet. He managed to get back in contact with his parents. After graduation, he pretty much argued his way back into Dr. Simiak's lab back in Amstelveen. Nowadays, he's a chief researcher on several temporal science projects - his experience in Fandom meant he was plenty qualified. He's also still pretty pointedly left-wing, though he's gotten a little savvier about it. AKA he's joined a political party.

He's been a serial monogamist for most of those twenty years, but currently single, la. Possibly because he keeps vanishing for mysterious 'trips'.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: Dolf would have tried to keep writing the people he knew, partly to keep up contact with friends, partly to see if their experiences in Fandom can help him with his research.

Name: Tony Stark

Age at the Reunion: 36

Backstory: After graduation Tony returned home for his triumphant retaking of Stark International to become that sassy billionaire genius playboy we all know and tolerate. After an amicable break up with the lovely Stephanie Brown, of course.

He'll have gone on to form the Avengers, deal with meeting a second version of Steve Rogers, nearly getting killed by hot Russian spies and repressing any and all chances at a normal, non-super hero life. But no goddamn Civil War. I refuse.

How He can fit into your character's backstory: While probably pretty flakey about remembering to respond to any attempts at keeping in touch, Tony is very... clingy to friends. Because someone has issues with family dying on him. So, you can probably expect him to try. Lemme know if you want in on aaaany Marvel wacky too!

Name: Cally

Age at the Reunion: Won't be there; she's going to disappear for the weekend.

Backstory: Cally got sucked back home and back into canon at some point before graduation, and (just as she hasn't been able to contact home from FH) wasn't able to contact FH from her own time. She became involved with the growing off-Auron resistance movement against the galactic Federation, was more or less exiled from her own people, and eventually joined up with freedom fighter Roj Blake and his crew. Four years later (at age 28 or so) she was killed in the explosion of a booby-trapped research base because Blake's 7 is the bounciest most sunshine-filled canon ever.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: About the only thing anyone would be aware of is that she left before graduation.

Name: Jaina Solo Fel

Age at the Reunion: 47

Backstory: After leaving Fandom, Jaina returned to life as normal back home, kicking ass, taking names, the usual. It was pretty much all she did for four years, till Jacen went Sithly and evil and had to be killed. Woe, but at least she got a sister-niece out of the deal. Around this time, she also got back together with her ex-boyfriend Jagged Fel, eventually marrying him, and they now have two boys. This also means that she had to leave the Jedi and move to the Imperial Remnant, where by reunion time, she's now Empress. (That should go over well with some people...) This is not the scary, racist, slave-mongering Empire of Palpatine's time, though, as Jag and Jaina are sane and not evil. She doesn't get to work with the Jedi hardly at all anymore (though she's in contact with her family), but she does work with the Imperial Knights when she can because she'd go insane if she didn't.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: Thanks to having family across the timelines in Fandom, Jaina would keep in touch with people and would still be making the occasional visit to Earth when she has the time. It's not as often as she would like. So it's entirely possible to have heard from/seen her during this time and to know where she is and what she's doing.

Also want to note that there is totally, totally going to be some selective memory happening when everything's back to normal to make this all work. Omg.

Name: Cable, Deadpool and Jan Summers

Age at the Reunion: AHAHAHAH... Jan is 23. The other two... good luck there, guys.

Backstory: After raising Jan in a way that doesn't involve post-Apocalyptic wolves or Stryfe's stupid helmet making an appearance, (and no Deadpool being torn in half. Ow.) the child who could destroy or save the mutant race has finally done... stuff.

And attended Fandom High. As is one's wont.

Where you can fit in!: Did you live through Messiah Complex and or The Second coming? Did you stay on the island? Then sure! Know Jan's adorable lil' face that's not so little anymore.

Name: Juliet Darling

Age at the Reunion: 36

Backstory I've worked out so far: Juliet went back to New York after graduation and resumed her life of wearing the best clothes, being at the best parties, acting (badly), and generally making her father weep for her future. She straightened out a tiny bit when she fell in love in her mid-20s and spent a year in the south Pacific. The relationship didn't last, but she started doing more charity work when she got home. These days, she's one of the "housewives" on the 2031 equivalent of Real Housewives of NYC. She's single and has never married, but she did recently adopt a daughter from Guatemala.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: You might hear more about her from Jeremy than you hear from her directly. It's not that she means to vanish, she just tends to be flaky about calling or writing. In her world, she's moderately famous in a kind of Kardashian way, but she'll understand that isn't true in Fandom.

Name: Merlin

Age at the Reunion: 41

Backstory: Having gone through the batshit insanity of canon and finally getting Arthur to be the king of all Albion, Merlin is the trusted adviser and court sorcerer. Oh, and still totally with Arthur. With the angriest child known to man from the combination of Katchoo and Arthur as the heir to the throne. So, suck on that Mordred.

Oh, and the PB is because I think I'm funny sometimes.

How you can fit in: There is a distinct possibility that, if you keep in touch with him, you will get horrible, horrible e-mails of adorable kittens and dancing squirrels. Just sigh and hope he forgets your address.

Name: Wesley Wyndam-Pryce

Age at the Reunion: 37

Backstory I've worked out so far: Wesley graduated from Fandom and moved to LA to help Angel kill demons and vampires and all that. Then season three happened, and he discovered a prophecy stating that "the father will kill the son," or in other words, Angel was going to kill his kid. To prevent that, Wes took Angel's son and eventually wound up (accidentally!) getting the kid sucked into a hell dimension. Angel hated him after that, blah blah blah, and Wes ended up spending the rest of his life with a semi-evil lawyer from the evil lawfirm Wolfram & Hart. They had a kid, Eloise Morgan-Pryce (http://wesleynotponcy.livejournal.com/4974.html), who is now fourteen. He isn't happy, per se, having lost his best friends, but he's a decent husband and father.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: He doesn't keep in touch with Fandom people very well, because he doesn't really want them to know where he's at in life. People might have heard through the grapevine that he quit working for Angel and married some evil lawyer, but other than that, nothing substantial. People could have heard rumors about his situation, and you can go wild with that.

Name: Arthur Pendragon

Age at the Reunion: 42

Backstory I've worked out so far: Things with Arthur's father deteriorated pretty badly for a while. Arthur wound up ignoring more and more of his orders, to the point of bringing in several peasants to be knights (including Lancelot). Fast forward a while, and Uther's dead, Arthur's united Britain and now holds Camelot as the capital of his kingdom. His child by Katchoo (there was a Deal involved) is heir, and things with Merlin are stable and pretty happy. Simple. (The Grail Quest is... probably coming up ahead, but it's not an issue yet.)

How he could fit into your character's backstory: He probably won't have been as, er, loud and present in the email sphere as Merlin, but he'll have kept up with the important people where possible. And of course anyone who might have visited Merlin or spoken to Merlin over the years would've wound up in contact with him from time to time.

Name: William Murdoch.

Age at the Reunion: 35.

Backstory I've worked out so far: Graduated Fandom High, and thanks to Sherlock's influence, skipped right over spending a few years working in a logging camp and headed right to Toronto to join the constabulary. He spent about seven years as a constable before his superiors finally admitted that Catholic or not, he deserved a promotion and was made a detective. Met, fell in love with, and eventually got engaged to Liza Milner who died of TB shortly before they were supposed to be married. Following that he pretty much threw himself into his work and has only recently started to come back out of his shell socially.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: He'd have written to friends- probably involving detailed descriptions of his latest adaptation of 21st century ideas to 19th century technology- and there would've been invitations to the wedding-that-didn't-happen about four years prior to the reunion. Correspondence probably dropped off rather abruptly following his fiancee's death, but would've picked up again by the time the reunion is happening.

And... he doesn't get an older!PB since the icons are already right from canon. SO THERE.

Name: Jacob Black

Age at the Reunion: still looking 25ish (and exactly the same as he does now)

Backstory I've worked out so far: There will be no imprinting for Jake. He'll defend Bella from his own pack and take up the alpha role, but once the creepy spawn is born, Jake flees and doesn't look back ever. This will happen some time in his senior year.

Which all somehow ends up in angry sex with Caroline, and then she stops stinking and who knew he could like a vampire? So um, he leaves La Push to become a kept man and marry a vampire. He'll work as a mechanic and he'll be moving around a lot thanks to the not aging thing.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: Jake is totes up for rent if anyone needs a big werewolf to come help out. Apparently Caroline likes to show off so there would be wedding invitations. People can come mock him. Over all, he'd be rather up and down in contacts. He'd call or mail sporadically, but he'd be there if he's needed.

Age at the Reunion: 39

Backstory I've worked out so far: Jack has a law practice in his world's New Amsterdam, focusing on the needs of supernatural clientele. Sebastien has been gone for years, and that's not a topic Jack cares to discuss. He is, though, still seeing Emma -- albeit in a relationship that tends to be rather fluid from year to year in terms of how exclusive it is. No children.

How he could fit into your character's backstory: Jack does not let go of people easily. If he knew you more than casually, he probably makes a point of regular calls and emails. And I'd love to work out anything where he served as the legal defense for Fandomites.

Age at the Reunion: N/A

Backstory I've worked out so far: Basically? SEASON EIGHT NEVER HAPPENED. Not in any version of this canon I have control over, dammit. Other than that, I haven't got a whole lot of details: her Watcher got killed by Bringers and sent her to Sunnydale, where she ended up getting together with Willow, became a Slayer per season 7 canon, ended up in Sao Paulo (when they weren't partying in Rio, I guess) with Willow, and a few years later ended up meeting every Slayer's inevitable end. (What? I'm not giving you spoilers for how I'm tweaking things.)

How she'd fit into your character's backstory: She'd have kept in touch with Fandom friends up until that point, and they are more than welcome to know that she was a Slayer and died in the line of duty.

As far as any other details past that, I think that might be an individual basis thing, so if you think your character might know more than that, ping me here or in email or IM to work it out. I have some details I need to dance carefully around. :)

Name: Tahiri Veila

Age at the Reunion: 40

Backstory I've worked out so far: I'm going to point you at Jaina's thread to cover the history, because they'll be basically coming from two different versions of the same future, with some alterations I haven't worked out yet.

This is totally conjecture based on current canon and some information from the Legacy comics, but due to philosophical differences with the Jedi (stemming from her dual Jedi/Yuuzhan Vong perspective, experiences in Fandom, and developments in their galaxy) and a certain slashy subtext sense of obligation to Jaina, left the Galactic Alliance and helped found the Imperial Knights.

The Imperial Knights are Force-users much like the Jedi, but rather than being neutral parties are loyal to the Empire; for this reason, the Jedi don't think terribly highly of them, and consider them morally grey.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: She'd have kept in touch, and friends are welcome to know the reasons for her split with the Jedi. Other than that I am totally open for ideas.

I am also not nearly as fail at HTML as these little edit footnotes would have you believe. *HANDWAVES*

Name: Caroline Forbes

Reunion Age: Still looks 17, no matter how old she gets.

Backstory: So sometime in the next year, Caroline experienced her canon torture at the hands of the werewolves and somehow this led to her making out with Jake instead of arguing with him about how she could agree their kind could never be friends. Oops? She left before graduating to reap the benefits of old money, divorced parents, and savvy investments. Work is not exactly Caroline's thing, but she eventually managed to get a degree or two out of boredom and in between travels. Blame the influence of her older vampire friends.

How she could fit in your character's backstory: Um, duh, of course everyone alive (and undead) was invited to the wedding! Even if it was a seriously weird gathering with all the wolves and vampires and the unknowing humans. Caroline would definitely have been in contact with people via text and email and homecoming parties.

Let's start with the easy one:

Name: Grace Winchester (Zoe is staying the same)

Age at the Reunion: 24

Backstory I've worked out so far: Grace grew up in Fandom and after attending normal schools for the early years she, of course, attended Fandom High. After that, she postponed college, and went off to join her stepbrothers in a life of saving people and hunting things, although she comes back to Fandom often to visit.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: If you've spent time on the island, you can totally recognize her and know that, like Jan, she's not weetiny anymore. :)

Name: Francine Peters-Silver (orrrr Peters-Choovanski - more on that below)

Age at the Reunion: 39 (it's the day after her birthday)

Backstory: The Francine who shows up to the reunion is from a future where she and Katchoo had a massive, massive fight/separation and haven't talked to each other for going on 20 years.

Francine is married to a doctor named Brad Silver (who happens to be the brother of Bowie-esque rockstar Griffin Silver). She met him just after her fight with Katchoo (he patched up a rib that Katchoo broke in that fight), and they now have a 10 year old daughter named Ashley and the picture-perfect suburban marriage in Houston. Except for the fact that Francine's lonely and depressed, drinks too much, looks older than she is, and she doesn't know that Brad is cheating on her, but she suspects it.

She doesn't have a lot of contact with FH people partly because that time in her life is marked off as the Katchoo Period, and partly because she's run back into her mom's world of Normal Is Good, which Brad is also firmly planted in.

How she could fit into your character's backstory: Here's where it gets wacky. This is very much *not* the actual future we plan for them (exhibit A as to why there are certain bits of canon we are skipping/massively rearranging, kthx Cartoonist).

The Francine and Katchoo that future!Merlin and future!Arthur know are essentially the "real" future, and most FH characters will know this Francine and Katchoo. They've been together for years, they have a teenaged daughter named Lily who is genetically Merlin/Francine's child, Katchoo returned the favor for Arthur's heir, and they've kept in close contact with everybody they know from Fandom. At one point they even came back to live on the island for a while, though they're living in a house in the desert in New Mexico now. Katchoo is a fairly well-known artist with her own studio in Santa Fe; Francine operates a day-care out of the other end of the same building.

The closer your future character is to the actual future you plan for them, the more likely it is that they'd know this backstory, and be all o.O at the Francine and Katchoo who show up and haven't talked to each other for years. If your reunion character's future is an AU from what you really envision for them, though, and you'd like them to know the Francine from Bradville (or more realistically, know that Katchoo) instead, ping us and we can work out how!
