Okay, this idea came about because of a comment that [livejournal.com profile] living_endless made in a meme. Pretty much every supernatural canon ever has that one episode/issue where the bad guys make the heroes think that all the supernatural stuff is crap and they are really nuts.

It could be a lot of fun to figure out a way to do this on an island-wide scale. A group of people (or alumni) could be off island when the effect hits and it can be up to them to figure out what is going on and how to fix it while the rest of the people believe that this is the way it's always been or become convinced that they are really crazy.

In Charmed, the bad guy makes Piper believe that Halliwell Manor is really a mental institution where she is locked up because of her delusions about being a witch. He also convinces her that Prue, Phoebe and Paige aren't really her sisters but her fellow patients.

Goes bulletpoint style:

Liir
-memory/history stuff
-magic (can screw it up too!)
-broom flight

Fiona
-cut anything
-even things like 'your ability to like cheetohs' out of you

Derek
-in the FBI
-profiler

Geoffrey
-madman

Abigail Irene
-forensics/detective-type
-sorcery

Nick
-old (800 years)
-totally a namedropper/history busy body
-vampire
-can find stuff out from people's blood

I really, really, really love this idea ... but you know I'm a sucker for anything where powered characters become nonpowered and dynamics shift. Heck, maybe the characters who are *always* mundane recognize the spell's effects and save the day.

Yes! I love that.

Need physical or emotional healing?1 Or just a random portal to heaven/purgatory/hell? Raven could be your girl.

Bel's always available to his friends for emergency shimmering, or those trips where you just don't want to book a portal.

Wyatt is ditto on the above, just orbing instead of shimmering (there is a difference, dammit). He can also heal, and he's totally a cooler Arthur than that jackass in Fandom.

Drake is...Drake.

Vida has mad makeover skillz.

1 Not like she won't fling herself at you to offer healing anyway even if you don't ask. ;)

Claire has blood that can heal anything - even death.

Joan can get instructions from God to do stuff.

Veronica is a PI and has connections with the CIA and FBI.

Chris can magically teleport.

One thing I would add -- maybe characters who are nonpowered-but-from-weird-places are also affected? Like, Jack still knows he's Czech, 18, bisexual, etc. ... he just thinks the parts where he lives with a vampire and was born in 1881 are totally insane.

Makes sense to me!

Firekeeper could think the notion of being raised by wolves is nuts, Arthur could think being the prince of Camelot is nuts, etc.

I'm just thinking about that possibility with my bunch of characters and holy fascinating dynamic shift, Batman. Not to mention all kinds of intriguing potential for character growth for anyone involved.

Which is my thoroughly non-contributing way of saying this is an awesome idea.

Drake needs to start checking things off on his bucket list. And inviting people along for the ride.

I completely dig that idea. And since we've established as a game that the island is semi-sentient and reacts in odd ways to external stimuli (wasn't there the whole pining for the Isle of Ikea thing?), maybe the semi-sentient island itself decides its crazy/gets semi-sentient island therapy?

I might need sleep.

I really like that! The island decides "... okay, enough weird, I am FED UP." And the characters need to do something to make it happy again.

"It's okay, Fandom Island! We like you just the way you are! We like you, uh, because you make us act crazy and do embarrassing things and -- okay, someone who's better at lying needs to try doing this."

Now I'm picturing all the unaffected folks having to convince everyone who thinks they're crazy to give the island a giant group hug.

"No. Seriously. HUG THE DAMNED TREE!"

Re: Specific Ideas

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I'm picturing Priestly trying to convince Worf to hug a tree.

Worf: No.
Priestly: You have no joy. You know that?
lovemykilt: (disbelief)

Re: Specific Ideas

[personal profile] lovemykilt 2009-12-16 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Priestly: You can't at least pretend to have joy? Just this once?

Re: Specific Ideas

Worf: *grunts* Can I punch you afterward?

Re: Specific Ideas

[personal profile] lovemykilt 2009-12-16 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Priestly: . . . Okay, fine, but only if the hug works and the island feels better.

Re: Specific Ideas

[identity profile] wantstocheer.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking something along the lines of Nemesis Island making another bid to take over Fandom.

But that doesn't get fixed by hugging trees.

I definitely need to sleep.
