Brainstorming Post!

I'm not even going to try to do that justice, and you really don't want the kind of bad puns I could come up with pre-coffee, so just go forth and do that brainstorming thing, will ya?

Specific Ideas

Which would be where you go to hash out those half-formed ideas, work on stuff from the master spreadsheet, etc.

For slightly more well-developed ideas, I was thinking that a Noir Day might be fun--basically, everyone on the island becomes a stock character from an old noir folk or novel: private eye, leggy dame, mafioso, g-man, perhaps even a gadget-guy if we wanted to widen the lens a bit beyond Noir to include Bond-like characters and villains.

I'm not sure if it would run better as a all-inclusive things, like SOW, where no one knows this is odd, or more like OMWF, where everyone's perfectly normal and then suddenly they're in 50's style dresses and spouting Sam Spade-like dialogue.

Okay based on the spreadsheet I'm assuming this is a good place to toss out my Random Crack ideas, SO:

- A Very Smurf Day - all day, random words are replaced with "smurf." Or "pincushion." Or "slithy toves" or whatever else.

- Bad Hair Day - Your hair is conspiring against you. It talks back. It criticizes you. It's lazy and grumpy and doesn't like you any more.

- Trapdoors - for when you put your foot in your mouth, and wish the ground would open up beneath you and just swallow you whole -- congratulations! You've just fallen down a trapdoor! One that opens three feet over the duck pond, so you'll be wet, but hey, you're out of that conversation.

- Lost In Translation - all dialogue needs to be translated to two or three other languages and back again. Narrative is fine.

- This one was something cantjossme and I came up with a while back for no apparent reason: Hell Freezes Over. And now that hell is frozen, people are doing exactly the kinds of things that would only happen if hell froze over ...

I vaguely remembered sending it in, but I thought it got lost in the shuffle, and not that we were the hold-up. \o/

If they're meant as Random Events for the admins to throw at the game, we can add them to that sheet instead of the Plot Brainstorming one, if you like. The Random Events one isn't published, so stuff stays a surprise, and it's for things that don't need someone to grab and run with developing them into a plot proposal like the bigger plots.

Naaaaaaah! Half the random events on the Random Events Spreadsheet ^TM are collected from the brainstorming posts. We just kept them off the "Here's some plots, grab one if you want to run with it" sheet.

I...may have the random events spread out into categories. Language Effects. Physical Effects. Hallucinatory Effects. Weetiny moddable things. Socks. Gnomes. Yes, I'm quoting directly. There are multiple sock and gnome suggestions.

I need a "Dork" icon. Granted since this is Francine's account, they all are.

This is mostly still in the brain-poot stage, but I had "So long and thanks for all the fish" stuck in my head a while back, and it spawned a half-formed notion of a Hitchhiker's Guide inspired plot, starting with a certain bunch of sea creatures going kinda crazy one day, totally and entirely gone the next, and then it turning into an all-out race to save the world as we know it from being destroyed in the name of intergalactic development.

... It would involve islanders having to sort through a lot of red tape somewhere in outer space. With some really nasty, kind of smelly, large lumpy aliens who write really bad poetry.

And possibly the number 42. Which, as we all know, is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I am really liking the idea of Fandom Tourists (http://community.livejournal.com/fhplotterywheel/144581.html?thread=4046277#t4046277). I'm picturing NPC tourists who run amuck taking pictures of gremlins and getting lost in the abandoned warehouse district.

The only thing better? Having the Griswolds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Lampoon%27s_Vacation) as the tourists!

There's a monster in the sewers. Maybe a giant Alligator, maybe something from a specicic movie. I was thinking something from Folklore like an Ogre or a Redcap.
