Character Abilities Tally!

Hey, guys!

For everybody's convenience, for both BDEs and personal plots, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters; the last time we did this was in January, so three runs of newbies later seemed like a good time to catch up.

If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/ninja/dork who has all the dialogue to Galaxy Quest memorized," this list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at. It's not mandatory; it just gives everybody a better reference when they're looking for people to help out with plots, and hey, might get your character roped into something fun!

Here's how we deal with updating this baby!

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check; it's linked on the FH community info page.

  • This post only needs to be filled out for new characters, or if you have a correction/update for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet and nothing's changed, there's no need to fill out that category again. (And my poor aging eyes will love you because it's one less cell to update on a seven-page spreadsheet.)

  • Anything that is

    a) a canon power or ability of your character, or
    b) a skill/ability developed during their time in the game

and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students, teachers, townies and alumni/expats - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and ability to speak Tev'Meck.

  • The categories focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or species-specific ability. So wacky powers are broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes, and non-wacky powers are divided into weapons, fighting, support, and miscellaneous (aka "It doesn't seem to fit in any of those groups, but dammit, you need to know that my character can do it!")

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[Wait for the OCD or NO CUPCAKES. OCD up, cupcakes for all!]

See above: If there's a battle, Tyrion can fight well enough to get himself through it. He's also apparently a decent acrobat, though he doesn't regard it as an especially impressive skill.

Mostly, this means he can dodge.

Hercules has been fighting for nearly three thousand years. He is so skilled that even when lacking his super strength/durability, he can still manage to dispatch the likes of villains such as Hobgoblin (with the help of his mythical armory). So, really, really skilled.

Kenzi's more of a runner than a fighter, but she's done it enough to be able to get away and not hurt herself, and no qualms about hurting someone else. She also tends to improvise well. And probably chick-fight to the death.

Sam is a brawler, and she's far stronger than she looks like she should be. She can throw grown men at least three times her weight from a standing position and has been known to take down all sorts of people in canon. She's a good improviser, the sort who can make just about anything into a weapon. She probably can't take someone whose trained all their lives or has super powers, but anyone else?

Bring it.

Kate's no stronger than any normal girl would be after a lot of training, but she has had a lot of training in multiple martial arts and has fought in arenas. She is not above fighting dirty, and makes up for her comparative lack of strength and size by moving fast.

Petra has a black belt. Canon doesn't specify what in. We'll say karate. Anyway, she can take care of herself in a fight. She can also do a Vulcan nerve pinch. I don't even know. Pressure points?

Morrigan is quite proficient with her staff. As a lone woman in Thedas, it is her first line of defense against those with less-than-welcome intentions. Well, second. Her heaping scorn generally comes first.

But she can take out Darkspawn with it, even when she's not channeling magics through it, so she can stand her own ground.

Along with his weaponry skills, Alistair's well-trained in hand-to-hand combat as well, though he'll opt for the ol' sword-and-shield whenever he has the chance.

Thanks to her superhuman endurance and strength, Natalie is pretty apt at fighting, though not particularly inclined to.

Alex is an extremely skilled fighter with a lot of knowledge of various forms of combat. Combined with his superhuman physical abilities and the fact that he's the god of battlefield rout, he's a pretty dangerous guy to not have on your side.

Due to transforming himself into a human-sandworm hybrid, Leto is now virtually unkillable, very very fast and very very strong. He is somewhat vulnerable to water though.

Beyond a few years of experience pre-mutation with bar brawling and scrapping in back alleyways and whatever mess Jonothon could get himself into back in the day, he's also had a few years of far more practical experience with hand-to-hand fighting, thanks to his time at the Massachusetts Academy, and then, after that, with the X-Men. He's not a black belt or anything, but he can bloody up his knuckles without flinching, and he doesn't exactly have a glass jaw so much as he has a fairly solid left hook.

Jack has the hand to hand combat training from being a US Marshall.

Quinn can win your typical girlfight or at least fight it to a draw, what with the hair-pulling, the slapping, and the fingernail-scratching. She's not trained, she's just fierce.
wrongkindofsith: (And now they ded from Cara)

Re: Fighting

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2011-09-27 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Cara is all about the fighty, in addition to her weapons training, she's a pretty down and dirty brawler, is fairly strong for her size and knows how to use it, has an insane sense of balance, is way flexible helps to be played by a former cheerleader, and suffers from a complete and utter inability to know when to give up.

Bruce has studied several martial arts under the supervision of experts in each of them, ranging from Judo to Boxing to whatever kind of Kung Fu magical monks in a hidden city might teach. He has started to build his own fighting style from all of this and is a very dangerous hand to hand fighter.

Bruce is also highly skilled with thrown projectiles and has some basic training with melee weapons.

Zayne has been trained in hand to hand fighting, and he's pretty decent at it (especially if he can use his Force powers in conjunction). With a lightsaber, he's able to survive in duels, but he'll never actually win one on his own.

And all of this is moot, because his special relationship with the Force means that if you fight him in a fight to the death, you will die. Not by his hands. By a last minute save or random circumstance.

James knows, through street brawls as a youth and combat training as a squire, how to handle himself in a fight, how to keep an eye on his allies, and make sure his back isn't exposed. He mostly relies on the sword or a dagger, but can still hold his own in a hand-to-hand fight.
