Character Abilities Tally!

Hey, guys!

For everybody's convenience, for both BDEs and personal plots, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters; the last time we did this was in January, so three runs of newbies later seemed like a good time to catch up.

If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/ninja/dork who has all the dialogue to Galaxy Quest memorized," this list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at. It's not mandatory; it just gives everybody a better reference when they're looking for people to help out with plots, and hey, might get your character roped into something fun!

Here's how we deal with updating this baby!

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check; it's linked on the FH community info page.

  • This post only needs to be filled out for new characters, or if you have a correction/update for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet and nothing's changed, there's no need to fill out that category again. (And my poor aging eyes will love you because it's one less cell to update on a seven-page spreadsheet.)

  • Anything that is

    a) a canon power or ability of your character, or
    b) a skill/ability developed during their time in the game

and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students, teachers, townies and alumni/expats - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and ability to speak Tev'Meck.

  • The categories focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or species-specific ability. So wacky powers are broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes, and non-wacky powers are divided into weapons, fighting, support, and miscellaneous (aka "It doesn't seem to fit in any of those groups, but dammit, you need to know that my character can do it!")

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[Wait for the OCD or NO CUPCAKES. OCD up, cupcakes for all!]

Pinkie has some moderate amount of clairvoyance. Her various bodily twitches predict the future, albeit in vague, loosely defined terms, such as "something's going to fall", "watch out for opening doors", or "there's an alligator in the bathtub."

Tyrion can get through a battle and not get himself killed. He's better with a dagger and shield than a full-sized sword, and he's really not the first person you'd call for this in general, but he's spent his whole life around knights -- if you just need to hand somebody something sharp and have them thwack at bad guys, he can do it.

Two words: cartoon physics. Pinkie can do all sorts of things, from blow up like a balloon to hover in the air to bug out her eyes to appear in completely impossible places, so long as the plot -- or the joke -- calls for it. She can swallow things twice the size of her head. She can pull props out of nowhere. She can withstand being smashed by falling boulders. She can even, on rare occasions, pick things up with her hooves as though she has thumbs.

To accomplish this, it's possible she's made of dark matter.

See above: If there's a battle, Tyrion can fight well enough to get himself through it. He's also apparently a decent acrobat, though he doesn't regard it as an especially impressive skill.

Mostly, this means he can dodge.

Tyrion is expert level in diplomacy/strategy/executive support -- in canon, he gets named Hand of the King in two-ish years, with no special training between now and then, and does a good job at it. He's very good at seeing what his resources are and figuring out ways to use them, and he's not particularly squeamish about playing dirty.

His dad is the richest man in his particular universe, and Tyrion is very good at spending money. I'd vaguely assume Fandom is a bit more expensive than Westeros, so he's not quite at buy-yourself-a-spaceship-for-kicks levels, but he's up there with the Darlings and the Worthingtons in terms of ability to throw cash around.

Given the way he uses it in canon, this is too a power.

Vincent has a PhD in molecular gastronomy. This means he cooks very, very, very well. He also cooks when he's worried, so it's a fair bet that if he knows something spooky's going down on the island, he'll be there with a coffee cart and pastries for the worried standersby if nothing else.

He's also lived in Eureka long enough to have picked up a few quantum physics concepts and has a refrigerator powered by a very small nuclear reactor.

Hercules has been fighting for nearly three thousand years. He is so skilled that even when lacking his super strength/durability, he can still manage to dispatch the likes of villains such as Hobgoblin (with the help of his mythical armory). So, really, really skilled.

No clue why I didn't put this in the tally before, but:

In a rare exception to the Buffyverse guns-are-bad rule, Wes is a near-perfect shot, and can shoot two guns while flying through the air and still make his target. He's also passable with a sword or a dagger (thanks, Percy), and probably cockier about it than his talents really merit. But really, it's the gun thing. Go to him. He'll shoot stuff for you.

Herc is a fan of the classics: The sword, the shield, the mace, and the bow-and-arrow. He's very, very good with all of the above, and isn't above cutting limbs off of evildoers. He's had three thousand years to practice.

Kate isn't super magic proficient in practice, but she had a whole chunk of natural power especially relating to necromancy.

She can cast spells, create wards to keep bad things in and out of places, and can create and control undead. She also owns two 'power words', mine and release, the use of which is open to interpretation but which is described as 'old magic' and extremely difficult (almost impossible) to resist. She's used it in canon to mind control on people and make fireballs amongst other things.

Being a member of the Flash family, Bart can run/move at super speed, he can vibrate through solid objects and anything else that superspeed can do (such as creating small tornadoes, wind cushions, intense friction, etc).

Dave is a near-expert knife-thrower. He's only used throwing knives in exhibitions and talent shows and he's a little out of practice, but as long as his nerves aren't shot, he can can hit a target very easily.

Topher can pretty much do whatever you need, technologically speaking. Miscellaneous hacking, robot construction, a chair that goes up and down for whatever reason, he's got it covered.
