Character Abilities Tally!

Hey, guys!

For everybody's convenience, for both BDEs and personal plots, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters; the last time we did this was in January, so three runs of newbies later seemed like a good time to catch up.

If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/ninja/dork who has all the dialogue to Galaxy Quest memorized," this list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at. It's not mandatory; it just gives everybody a better reference when they're looking for people to help out with plots, and hey, might get your character roped into something fun!

Here's how we deal with updating this baby!

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check; it's linked on the FH community info page.

  • This post only needs to be filled out for new characters, or if you have a correction/update for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet and nothing's changed, there's no need to fill out that category again. (And my poor aging eyes will love you because it's one less cell to update on a seven-page spreadsheet.)

  • Anything that is

    a) a canon power or ability of your character, or
    b) a skill/ability developed during their time in the game

and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students, teachers, townies and alumni/expats - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and ability to speak Tev'Meck.

  • The categories focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or species-specific ability. So wacky powers are broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes, and non-wacky powers are divided into weapons, fighting, support, and miscellaneous (aka "It doesn't seem to fit in any of those groups, but dammit, you need to know that my character can do it!")

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[Wait for the OCD or NO CUPCAKES. OCD up, cupcakes for all!]

His dad is the richest man in his particular universe, and Tyrion is very good at spending money. I'd vaguely assume Fandom is a bit more expensive than Westeros, so he's not quite at buy-yourself-a-spaceship-for-kicks levels, but he's up there with the Darlings and the Worthingtons in terms of ability to throw cash around.

Given the way he uses it in canon, this is too a power.

Topher can pretty much do whatever you need, technologically speaking. Miscellaneous hacking, robot construction, a chair that goes up and down for whatever reason, he's got it covered.

I'm putting this here, since these are the properties of the items he stole from Ares' Armory (by walking up to it with a Zeusdamn Javelin Anti-Tank Missile and blowing open the doors). This means that while Herc has the abilities here, technically in dire scenarios he could lend them out (barring one, which I'll note).

The Sword of Peleus: Sharp enough to cut through anything. Herc has used it to cut through guns, limbs, and even Gambit's staff. Poor Gambit.

The Bow and Arrows of Heracles: The arrows are sharp enough to pierce any armor.

The Shield of Perseus: The face of the shield features an image of the Medusa, and the eyes of that image are wrapped in cloth... for if those eyes are exposed, those in its gaze are temporarily turned to stone.

The Helm of Hades: Renders the wearer invisible. This, sadly, is the one that Herc can't lend out. Because having it in his possession is what is protecting him from being found by the gods. Cause they're kind of angry he busted open Ares' Armory.

Bod's incredibly skilled at using the environment around him to his advantage. Canonically, he dispatches four bigger, stronger, and skilled men using just the graveyard and the things within. He's apt at hiding, great at baiting people into traps and pretty damn stealthy.

Kenzi's whole family apparently runs scams and can get you fake passports, or information where they are in Canada through less-than-legal means.

She also is completely bilingual in Russian yay canon confirming!.

Sam wields the awesome power of influence over millions and millions of internet comedy variety show fans. She can raise hundreds of dollars in the matter of a few days. She can track down people who've dropped off the radar and gone into hiding. She can gather thousands of hours of teenagers doing random dances. All just by asking for it on iCarly.

Petra can sew, knit, bead, smock, crochet...basically if it involves turning fabric or yarn into something useful or pretty, she's your girl.

She has all the survival skills necessary to survive and thrive on a deserted island for six weeks with very few resources. Among these: she can build a desalination still or a hut, catch fish with a straightening iron, start a fire, and sew a rescue banner, and knows enough basic smelting to melt jewelry into arrowheads and fishhooks. She also knows how to cure lumber and repair a boat.

She is an excellent singer and dancer, can maintain her poise under pressure, knows how to find Iran on a map, and is an expert-level accessorizer. She can also do all the moves from the video for "You're My Only Girl, Girl" by Boyz Will B Boyz, but only if you ask nicely.

Claudia has access to a giant warehouse full of mystical and magical artifacts from around the world and most eras of human history, which do a variety of useful and dangerous things, like help you survive a fire (if you're willing to sacrifice someone else nearby), or make you drunk without a single drop of alcohol.

It's practically a plot engine.

Natalie has the power of slight meta and/or fourth wall leanage! Basically, this means she can read your narrative and react to it, but she only does it rarely and only with throwaway lines, not with anything significant. It's mostly for comedic purposes.

I don't know, it could still totally be useful somewhere, sometime?

Thanks to over a year of possessing Jane and having Jane manage his finances, Ender is starting to have a modest amount of money to his name - enough to buy up some Naboo real estate as an investment, for example. Thanks to Jane's clever investments in this universe and others, he's going to be building up quite some means, even in this coming year alone.

Note that Ender has no real idea of the value of money or how to use it - in canon, he's Lannister-plus-Stark-plus-Darlings-plus-Worthingtons-and-then-some rich and still doesn't even realise it.

ETA: And because I don't understand why I've never brought this up all these years... if it's a video game, Ender can beat you at it. No contest.

Sov is fairly ordinary with no special skills, but should you ever, for some bizarre reason, need someone who is both/neither male/female they are the right person.

Quinn is in exceptionally good shape. She isn't cheering in Fandom, but she works out a lot and could probably get back to competition form in a matter of days. Her squad does some gymnastics in canon, but I'd say she's more at the "look, ma, a handspring!" level than anything Olympic caliber.

She has a fair amount of innate leadership skills, though her style is more about bossing and scheming than about consensus-building.

She also has a decent singing voice and can play piano. She can also pick locks, though she'd probably be stymied by anything much harder than a cheapo combination lock.

And I suppose it's worth mentioning she was raised very, very religious, so if your character needs to know who Jesus was and doesn't mind being snarked at, she might possibly be useful.

Mercy has mad survival skills, thanks to being taught them by a Native American werewolf she grew up with. Though I'm not sure 'grew up with' is the right term when she's 16 and he's a few hundred years old. Still...

Also, she has all sorts of knowledge about the fae, vampires, werewolves (obviously), witches of all kinds, etc. Often including how to incapacitate them.

Oh, and she's quite good at picking locks.

Is well on his way to becoming a full-fledged accountant (...I know, WTF.) and thus while he doesn't have all that much money of his own to speak of, knows his way around dealing with other peoples' finances and investments.

...Well, and also he'll shamelessly volunteer Warren's funds for things, because he's generous like that.

Bruce has spent a lot of time training to be stealthy. He can enter and leave rooms without detection if people look away. He's also trained to be a great escape artist and lock picker, so he can work his way through virtually any lock in very little time, even if that lock happens to be holding chains around him while he is submerged upside down in a tank of water.

He also has a level of resistance to psionic attacks due to his own intense will and some training by ex-girlfriend/powerful telepath Jean Grey.

Bruce has a very strategic mind and constantly looks for ways to work things toward his benefit, even during casual conversation, even if it's just subtly getting people to tell him things he wants to know. I'm sorry if he ever manipulates you, but he isn't.

Bruce also knows how to drive cars, motorcycles, and planes/space planes (thanks, Anakin!), often at high speeds in dangerous situations.

He also DOMINATES at Dance Dance Revolution.

And finally, he is richer than just about anyone. NO MATTER WHAT FORBES SAYS, TONY STARK! He is seriously, massively rich, and he will spend that money on any good cause he sees. And no matter how much he does that, he will still have basically infinite resources.

She is also extremely skilled at manipulation. She charmed the French King into stopping an invasion, without laying a finger on him directly.

Yeah, so, Cara used to torture people for a living, and she was really good at it. She mightn't be up on mordern type stuff, but she knows all about using pain (and pleasure) to bend and break people to her will. She also has insanely high levels of pain tolerance, and is pretty much impossible to effectively torture, unless you happen to have powerful dark magic powered by her guilt lying around.

Unlikely to randomly come up, but she's also pretty good at the whole sex and seduction thing, usually about as subtle as a sledgehammer, but she gets results.
