Friday Assembly: The Gremlin Menace and you

Greetings!

This week's assembly is going to be somewhat in the vein of a public service/safety announcement.

About what you might ask?

About gremlins, we would answer!

Dr Ira Kane will be attending Fandom to give a guest lecture on the dangers of gremlins and how to deal with them. Our very own Hermione Granger will be providing a somewhat different perspective on our scaled friends.

What we'd like, in addition to our two speakers, are some volunteers from the student body to speak about their experiences with gremlins:

-Two or three to talk about how they fell victim to their evil bitey ways (these will be, presumably, anti-gremlin), and
-Two or three who observed the gremlin induced hijinks, to talk about how they felt about these antics (presumably pro-gremlin, given the rich source of enjoyment the gremlin-bit provide to all of Fandom).

Have a character who's been bit?

Have a character who's enjoyed seeing the resulting whacky hijinks? Or one who might want to assist the victims in reliving their embarrassment in front of the entire school?

Sign them up below to share their experience with the entire student body!

Just remember, when you're recounting your tale of witnessing the gremlin-afflicted that, while a bit of embarrassment is perfectly okay, you are talking about someone else's character in a public forum, so it might be an idea to give the person you're going to be talking about a head's up.

Comments will be screened to provide an element of surprise, and the post will go up early on Friday for slowplay.

Friday Events: Academic Fair

Hey folks! A few months back, [livejournal.com profile] cantjossme was going to run an Academic Convention tied to an Assembly. With his permission, we're blatantly ripping off that idea and adapting it to take place in a single afternoon. That's right, this Friday will feature an Academic Fair. Indiana Jones, Professor Hubert Farnsworth, Flynn Carson, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, Braniac... If you have a guest star who's all about knowledge, both gaining and sharing, we need 'em.

All of our guest academics will need to have a presentation of some sort. We're looking at a booth in the park kind of thing where they're there to lecture (a couple paragraphs on some subject), answer questions, etc. Of course, knowledge can be handwaved (no, you don't have to be a biblical scholar to do Indy's presentation, but that may help!). They'll have a thread to call their own, ping in there, interact with people who come by, that kind of thing. They will, of course, be able to get around and interact with other guests and share knowledge.

So, as is typical with these things, if you'd like to participate, please send in the following application to administration AT fandomhigh DOT net.

Player Name:
Contact Email:
Other characters played in game:
Full name of Character:
LJ handle of Character (either new journal or existing character journal you'll be using):
Fandom of Character:

Short Writing Sample (one or two paragraphs/approximately 100 words, probably a rough draft of their lecture):

We'll be needing these by midnight central time on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Acceptance/confirmation e-mails should go out Thursday morning/afternoon, and the event post will be up late Thursday evening.

School Assemblies: Last Minute Fun!

Originally this weeks assembly was going to be tied to the academic conference. That has been cancelled, but fear not! I have a plan.

This week's assembly will feature a play. Not just any play. A play written by The Tick. And it will need actors in it. Not just any actors. Actors who will be unwittingly chosen to perform in the play due to some sort of Fandom strangeness to be determined. (I have a couple ideas but just need a go-ahead with them. I'll know for sure tomorrow.

I will be providing a very loose outline for three acts (how each act should begin and end, basically) in the comments of the assembly post on Thursday night and the volunteers will make up everything else from there. Dialogue, character development, etc.

If you would like for your character to be unwittingly volunteered, we'll be needing maybe 3-5 characters in each act if things work out right. Characters can appear in more than one act, of course, and

So, that's the very rough plan at the moment. Sorry about the last-minuteness but I'm just now getting my life back from the horrors of work, otherwise this probably would have gone up a day ago.

School Assemblies: Anti-Drug Assembly

Well, it's that time again. This Friday begins another run of bi-weekly school assemblies. This week Tick will be hosting an Anti-Drug Assembly. We're looking for speakers who have some sort of experience with drugs, either through law enforcement, being a humanoid dog anti-drug mascot, or more "practical" experience, if you will. Please note that anyone speaking must speak AGAINST drugs (or at the very least be a glaringly obvious example of why drugs are bad).

If you want to participate as a speaker and prepare a speech (1-2 paragraphs minimum) and field questions in a Q&A, please fill out the application below and post it to the screened comments.

ALSO, we need a name for the drug education program we're going to be using. We could use DARE, but since that's a real national organization it would probably be best to make up a meta. If you have an idea for a DARE-type organization, please drop an acronym in the comments.

Also, I call dibs on Duffman. Sorry, but I have to claim him. :)

ETA: If you have a non-student character in Fandom who you want to give a speech, that's fine.

Oh, and all apps should be in by 12 AM Thursday morning, Central Time.
