Brainstorming Post! [7/16/08]
Hello, all, and happy Wednesday! To maybe help you get through the middle of the week, here be the first of the brainstorming posts. Per the poll results from yesterday we'll be posting these every two weeks, although depending on the traffic the posts may get scaled back to monthly.
Format-wise we're still in beta-testing mode, so pardon our dust and the OCD threads here may not end up being the standard.
Anyway! Got a rudimentary idea for a plot? An idea that isn't quite a plot and you can't quite figure out how to make it one? A plot idea you'd love to see, but doesn't fit any of your characters? Something you want to throw out there for people to play with? Thoughts on possible cracky weekend events? A story arc you want to adapt for your character, but you need people to fill in some roles? Here's where all of that goes.
PLEASE NOTE that this is brainstorming only, and any plots formulated here are still subject to admin approval.
All that said, jump on in and brainstorm away (but not in the Valdemaran sense, we hope)!

General brainstormy stuff!
Random event
Preferably for the adults of the island since there isn't a lot of regular activity for them.

Re: Random event
Lacey's the sort of person who likes doing civic stuff, so she'd be all over planning something like this, although help in planning it, ICly, would be awesome. :)
Re: Random event
I'm sure Lacey could get all kinds of help, especially if there's a sign on the community board.
And of course, Murdock would be happy to plan ICly! Oooh - can he do party favors? *snerk*

Re: Questions!
"Toilet Fears" (http://www.mania.com/lost-universe-vol-3_article_73688.html) from Lost Universe - specifically, a device comes on the ship that switches all the rooms around as you walk through them (a little like Cube) but the big problem is: No one can find the bathroom.
Attack of Mary Sue - Mary Sue comes to the island and she's everyone dreamgirl. As per her standard, she's related to/dating/daughter to/mother of/cousins with/favorite niece of whoever she meets... only trouble is, why have these people's friends never HEARD of her? And imagine the trouble she starts! With relationships strained, reality buckling around her ("How can you be John Winchester's other daughter AND Wonderwoman's twin sister?"), can Fandom band together to rid their island of this terrible affliction?(would need some fleshing out)
One Wish, One Day - everyone on Fandom gets what they think they want for one day. Play it for laughs ("OMG the bikini babes won't even let me PEE alone!"). Play it for drama ("...I know you're going to disappear tomorrow, but it was nice having a family for a day."). Play it for simplicity ("Wow. Thank you. That was just an awesome cheesecake.")
Leather Day ...you know how everyone's going to have nothing but pirate clothes for a day? Well, like that, but with leather.
The Inverted Cathedral - there might be a few people familiar with this place, but if not, it comes from Beyond the Blue Moon by Simon R. Green and this would definitely be BDE territory. The Inverted Cathedral warps space and time, draws evil towards it, and would require a team (or a set of teams) to go into it in an attempt to find and close the opening at the very highest part of the cathedral between worlds.(would need some fleshing out)
Call of Cthulhu - ...anyone ever read that story? With the dreams and the artists and the international panic and the island rising up out of the waves with the creepy engineering and the dark god that might need to be put back to sleep? After all, an island moving around all summer, well, that's bound to wake someone up after a while, isn't it? (would need some fleshing out)
and brain depleated for now.
Re: Questions!
Ooo yes! Who doesn't like seeing hot peoples in leather?

I once wrote a crack app for Mary Sue. I think it's a brilliant idea!

Re: General brainstormy stuff!
Fandom has its gremlins which just bite and make people act weird. So what if its movie-verse brother dropped by. First cute and fuzzy before it mutates and tries to kill people.
God, that movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

Because a BDE or even a day long plot having to do with dealing with a newly imported GLaDOS (http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/GLaDOS) might be a damn lot of fun. Yay for insane passive aggressive cake loving robots (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Portal#In_GLADOS.27s_chamber).
Some quality GLaDOS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgP4kT5-9Cc).
Re: General brainstormy stuff!
Lost in translation day. Since it's handwaved that everyone can understand everyone else, it could be fun to have a day when that just, you know, didn't work. Practically speaking, it would make us have to chunk dialogue through babblefish.
Wackiness would thus ensue.
Re: General brainstormy stuff!
Perhaps a BDE involving the 'horrorverse' from this brilliant book right here? (http://www.amazon.com/How-Survive-Horror-Movie-Skills/dp/1594741794) Wherein genry savvyness and obeying the rules of cheeseball horror are the only way to 'survive'.
