Character Abilities Tally!

Hey, guys!

For everybody's convenience, for both BDEs and personal plots, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters; the last time we did this was in January, so three runs of newbies later seemed like a good time to catch up.

If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/ninja/dork who has all the dialogue to Galaxy Quest memorized," this list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at. It's not mandatory; it just gives everybody a better reference when they're looking for people to help out with plots, and hey, might get your character roped into something fun!

Here's how we deal with updating this baby!

  • All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check; it's linked on the FH community info page.

  • This post only needs to be filled out for new characters, or if you have a correction/update for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet and nothing's changed, there's no need to fill out that category again. (And my poor aging eyes will love you because it's one less cell to update on a seven-page spreadsheet.)

  • Anything that is

    a) a canon power or ability of your character, or
    b) a skill/ability developed during their time in the game

and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students, teachers, townies and alumni/expats - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and ability to speak Tev'Meck.

  • The categories focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or species-specific ability. So wacky powers are broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes, and non-wacky powers are divided into weapons, fighting, support, and miscellaneous (aka "It doesn't seem to fit in any of those groups, but dammit, you need to know that my character can do it!")

Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to do this!

[Wait for the OCD or NO CUPCAKES. OCD up, cupcakes for all!]

Two words: cartoon physics. Pinkie can do all sorts of things, from blow up like a balloon to hover in the air to bug out her eyes to appear in completely impossible places, so long as the plot -- or the joke -- calls for it. She can swallow things twice the size of her head. She can pull props out of nowhere. She can withstand being smashed by falling boulders. She can even, on rare occasions, pick things up with her hooves as though she has thumbs.

To accomplish this, it's possible she's made of dark matter.

Being a member of the Flash family, Bart can run/move at super speed, he can vibrate through solid objects and anything else that superspeed can do (such as creating small tornadoes, wind cushions, intense friction, etc).

Kate's got special blood. It has a dormant strain of Immortuus in it, which is the pathogen that creates vampires in her world.

It grants her an immunity to sickness since it chomps up viruses for breakfast, and makes her immune to both vampirism and lyncanthropy. Under certain circumstances it can be used to cure others.

Nathan's fucking immortal, mate! He can be killed but, after a little bit of time, he comes right back to life as if nothing happened. Any injury will be healed, any illness will be gone and he'll be right back to entertain you!

Alistair swallowed a demonic taint as part of his initiation to the Grey Wardens. That imbues him with the ability to sense tainted creatures (primarily darkspawn) and tap into their hive mind, as well as making him immune to any brand of tainting otherwise.

However, it also means he's very slowly getting turned into a darkspawn, so... there's that.

Natalie has video game style superhuman strength and endurance. She can deflect a huge hammer (even one that has a +2 against girls!) with a swift kick, and she can get zapped across a room and into a wall without so much as getting a scratch on her.

Alex is superstrong, superfast, and superdurable at levels standard for an Olympian in his world, which means he's way above human norms. He has some limitations due to size and age, and also due to mentality--it wouldn't occur to him to try to pick up a wall because he's not used to being a god yet and doesn't realize he could. Now that he's burned away his mortality, he is hard to injure and almost impossible to kill.

Most of Susan's stuff goes here, because she's so superhuman she's only really partly human.

Susan is partly the personification of Death, meaning that she's able to sever the soul from the body and let it go off into the afterlife. She can blend into the background, making herself invisible unless you're able to really focus on her. Or if you're a cat. She is able to find any living person, go back and forth through time to different places, stop time entirely and walk through it while everyone else is frozen in place, walk through walls, create objects by thinking of them (though they tend to be black or have a skull and crossbones pattern), is sensitive to the supernatural and able to see what's really there, and she can also do THE VOICE, where it's basically like Death speaking to you and most people do whatever it is she wants because they're sort of scared.

Warren's got himself a pair of large, feathered wings. And yes, he can fly with them, even decently well. He doesn't know exactly what his limits are, when it comes to how high or how fast he can fly, but he's got superhuman stamina and a fairly impressive upper-body strength to account for this ability to fly, plus hollow bones and lungs that are adapted to get oxygen into his blood even at extreme altitudes... He's essentially a large bird that looks good with no shirt on.

On top of that, he has superhuman healing abilities, which means that serious injuries heal themselves away in a matter of minutes-to-hours (it depends on how serious), and his blood can be used to heal other people who have a compatible blood type. He doesn't yet know the full extent of what he can heal, and canon itself is fairly vague. We'll go with "He can't raise the dead, but he could probably save your life if you were well on the way there."

And now, thanks to the BDE, Warren's got himself a set of razor-sharp, pretty fierce, black hooked claws on his hands. He's no good with them, he prefers to hide them rather than rake them across things, but they are there and fairly dangerous in their own right if he ever twigs on to what claws are there for.

Human form:

Mercy's quite a bit faster than human norm and a little bit stronger. She also has a better nose than most. She can smell emotions if they are strong enough and can also sometimes smell a lie.

Coyote form:

Mercy's very fast. She can run just a little bit faster than an enraged werewolf, and they can run faster than an average wolf. She has an excellent sense of smell and can track people through scent and identify people's scents left even weeks before. She can smell how someone is feeling almost all the time and can pretty easily smell lies.

He's as yet unaware of it, but Lex has a supercharged immune system with a dose of the low-level healing factor to go with it.

"Bump of Trouble": like a Spidey-sense in which the hairs at the back of his neck tingle when there's a trap or ambush imminent/likely to happen (very observant).

Above-average quickness (shows in his swordwork & pickpocketing), above average patience (no fidget) trained into him from his boyhood as a thief (wrong move / move too soon, you're dead).

Simon can turn invisible at will. While invisible, he can only be perceived through touch or telepathy, or other similar psychic abilities.
