BDE Vampire AU Brainstorming

So we've all probably got a bit of an idea of what we want our characters to have been up to over in the AU. What we need now is to get hooked up with people who have similar plotting needs or just really dig an idea.

This is that post! Ask for help accomplishing something for your AU character. Volunteer to help others! The OCD's set up by what type of character you have/want so just ping in with what you're looking for/hoping for.

This is for hooking up survivors with other survivors to figure out some of the big picture stuff like food, lodging, and the night shift!

My girl is up for taking care of any of your orphaned offspring, yo. Or watching those that still have parents while they're off doing dangerous things. (ETA: Your canon/FH-canon offspring, of the NPC variety. No new/AU kids!)

Yaddayadda cooks, sits up with sick people, gives hugs, is Francine. Except for the part where Katchoo is dead, Francine has a white streak in her hair and a tattoo in the shape of the dirtiest lily ever, and it's really damn hard to catch her wearing a smile.

ETA for the "common knowledge" portion of our game: she and Katchoo were a definite Thing (after about 5 minutes of she and Merlin being an almost-thing) before Katchoo got vamped. (Fuck your denial issues, Francine; in case you hadn't noticed we might die here and it's not like you're gonna get a picket fence that wouldn't get broken up for stakes, or even want to raise kids in this hellhole.) And said white streak showed up when that happened.

Claire's blood can heal others if they are given a transfusion, so any survivors who suffer massive injuries could be helped by her.

ETA: Oh and I'm having Claire arrive in AUverse in January 2008 -- much earlier than she arrived in the real timeline.

Raven will be a healing machine once she arrives in Fandom (in May). She won't take a character no for an answer. (A player no, yes, of course. :) I want her to be becoming overwhelmed and on the edge of losing it.

Wyatt is a healer as well, but ever since Chris died he's been way more concerned about killing things than protection or healing. He'll heal anyone who asks; he's just not making himself available much for it.

He can also orb missions into town or elsewhere on the island to scrounge for supplies. 'Course, if the sun's going down and you haven't come back to the rendezvous point to orb back, you're going to get left behind. So if anyone wants to be cranky at Wyatt for getting left behind and having to get back to the school on their own.... :)

Joining on the Healer bandwagon. Also (assuming this is okay'd by the mods) she can hang out in tangled webs and try to see small glimpses of the future in regard to night raids, newbie arrivals, etc.

Her shields will still work, right? Including sight and aural shields? Because walking around invisible and inaudible (though still able to be sensed through other means) will be pretty frickin useful.

Being hardlight gives Rimmer some advantages, one of them being he can affect change and it's sort of hard to actually harm him because, well, he's HARD LIGHT. There's no flesh to harm.

...also he's the most annoying human being on any planet known to man, so I'm totally up for letting Rimmer be used (and used to) playing chew toy/decoy (as he can change his holographic appearance).

Anakin is a 21-year-old Padawan under siege without an Obi-Wan or a Rory to balance him. So...yeah, Force-lightning and choking ahoy.

He's been there from the beginning and will generally be completely humorless and putting himself between survivors without superpowers and whoever's trying to eat them.

Piper will still have some form of her powers and will use them to protect the other survivors, but she's mostly going to be concerned with taking out as many vamps as possible. If she feels like it, she might even cook sometimes.

Toby has SURVIVED! AGAINST THE ODDS! And is very likely going to need people (or vampires omm) willing to protect him from the bad guys. He will have nearly been dinner on more than one occasion and is likely suffering from a good amount of hero worship.

If there's any kind of system for getting supplies in, you can pretty much count on Mirax being involved, and at least trying to head it up. (See username, lalala.)

Xander's ... Xander. Two-eyed and a pretty damned good crossbow shot. Totally available for patrols, newbie-rescue, and so on. Halfway decent at fixing stuff, but never turned into construction guy. *reads above comment, edits* Totally good for hugs.

Also, he's that guy who'll remember to grab the girly TMI stuff for you if they're looting a house.

Arthur will be a) a giant mess and b) somewhat obsessed with commemorating the dead over in the AU - funky woad tattoos for the fallen, that is. These are totes visible (one's on the face, after all) and up for any notches-for-the-dead or whatever... stuff. (I mention this mostly because I'm a dork)

Otherwise, he's still trying-to-be-in-charge guy and will probably volunteer for just about anything of a patrolly or violent nature.

ETA: And just for full 'whee background disclosure' reasons, he and bigdamndestiny got their shit together (as in together together) fairly early into this particular nightmare, so that would probably be common knowledge to those who know 'em.

Kerrigan, on the other hand, is still very much 1) human; 2) telepathic; and 3) surly. So if you need anyone to crankily get in your kid's head over something, she's there. She'll also probably be off playing cheesed-off violent ex-soldier den-mother, so if you need her, she's there.

Two-plus years of Fandom have finally done to Rikku what Spira didn't -- they've killed most of her cheer. She tried to be the merriest, the optimist, the one who insisted it was all going to be okay, but losing over and over again deadened that, for her. It only shows up now and again, and it's more forced than it used to be.

Also, she's going to have given up the bright clothes in favor of dark ones that reduce her likelihood of being seen. She misses the bright clothing, she misses her bounciness, but they're not coming back any time soon, if ever.

In the Useful and Helpful sense: Rikku is very good with building machinery and reverse-engineering gadgets. She also would have had a number of healing potions when she arrived, but I'm sure those are long gone by now. She has a very weak Fire spell -- weak even in her world, before Willow's dampening, but it could at least serve as a lighter, which means it could help in a pinch. (I.e., set someone's sleeve on fire, and flee while they're putting it out.)

ETA: this bit was cleared with raspberryturk -- Reno and Rikku might have been friends, might have had an offhand hook-up or two for comfort/survivor sex before his untimely death, but they weren't dating/OTP/super-close.

Marty will definitely not be the well adjusted guy he is today. Not that he's well adjusted to begin with but...

After Angelus/Angel bit it, he would have assumed everything would be safe in Fandom only to have that ripped apart in some ugly events that happened as a result of souling plot. Now he's back to what he was before he came to Fandom and pretty much worse for the wear to boot. No happy icons for his AU journal.

I am looking for someone who would have been vamped in the spring of 2008 (March/April ish) and someone who would have died a few months after that (heroically) for part of what I'm hoping to do with Claire's backstory.

La la la I got the bits I needed sorted out.

At some point in spring/summer of 2008, Toby accidentally tells a vamp about Claire's healing ability. She ends up getting grabbed by a group of vamps (any volunteers? Winchesters, maybe?) and used as an all you can eat buffet. Peter, Jon and others (volunteers also welcome) rescue her and Jon dies during the rescue.

Of course this doesn't keep Claire from going out and trying to kill vamps.

girlzippo, Charlie McGee (Firestarter), who arrived in May 2007, died in a blaze of... well, blazing, thanks to Bel, in September 2007. She'd been doing a good job taking out vampires before then, because while the spell diminished her fire-starting abilities, it couldn't completely remove them. She started going after a lot of vamps at once by September; got caught in a trap in one of the old buildings; and Bel turned the fire against her.

Putting this here for lack of being able to guess what other thread it would go under:

It occurs to me that years of this would mean that Fandom develops its own culture/sociology about these things. Like - just to start with some concepts to get the brainstorminig ball going - maybe the various types of survivors get thought of as grouped based on what they do. "Healers" "Helpers" "Hunters" "Some other label that doesn't insist on alliteration" and so on.

Then there could be ways the groups related to each other, like maybe it's understood that you always protect healers and helpers because without them nobody gets to get better and/or eat. Hunters of the vampire type might have some rules - overt or simply understood - about watching each other's backs, or knowing that sometimes you have to let a hunter die if it's a choice between saving them and someone who couldn't defend themself.

People might come up with routines to help give structure to the days. Like maybe everyone who does cooking has a set time they all get together to start peeling potatoes, prepping breakfast, and so on.

Vocabulary might be another thing that evolved. Like they might come up with their own terms to refer to the barrier that keeps them from escaping the island, or the day when shit got bad, or the time of day that if you're out there you're taking your life in your hands. (The later could obviously be "sunset" but that in and of itself could evolve in their language, like "Where's Claire?" "Sunsetting, like an idiot.")

Likewise there could be cursewords that crop up based on commonly hated things.

And there might be sacred things and rituals. The dead would have to be creamated to make sure they stayed dead, so what do our survivors come up with in terms of funerals, or honoring those who passed? There might also be holidays - not necessarily in the celebratory sense, but like memorial day when significant events in Fandom's history (like the island being shut off from the world) are marked. (Heck, maybe this is known as a day the vamps have a huge celebration while the survivors quietly light candles.)

Anyway, all off of the top of my geeky, far too many thoughts head. I'm married to none of it. Just thought it might be another aspect of the AU worldbuilding some folks might want to play with.
