Brainstorming Post!

Apologies, apologies, apologies! We've totally flaked on this for the past couple of months. I won't speak for [livejournal.com profile] willbedone as far as inviting punishment, but you can make indignant noises in my direction for it if you like. *shameface*

Anyway, this is the monthly brainstorming post, and I hope this means you guys have a ton of stuff to throw into the mix today, so have at it, in the appropriate OCD thread! And they are up, so go go go!

I have long been advocating a natural disaster BDE. Something we can't fight, that we just have to endure and recover/rebuild from.

Fun fact: Maryland Renter's Insurance does not cover volcano damage. Who knew?

I keep poking at the idea of a prospective student weekend, but I'm not sure how we could do it so it wasn't just Launchpad writ large.

Also, we have a huge number of people from mythologies with vampires (either vampires, or humans who interact with them) right now. I'm trying to come up with something they could all DO together besides bitch about Maryland being too sunny, and coming up with pretty much zilch, but I wanted to throw that out there anyhow.

I loved the Secret Invasion plot from Marvel becoming a BDE (or was it an MDE?). I'd love to see other people's canons become invasions or somesuch. There's plenty of bad guys out there to choose from.

Also I'd like to once more bring up the possibility of an Alumni plot.

Someone said to repost this in the next brainstorming thing, SO I AM. C&P AHOY.

I think that the island needs to be threatened with losing its teaching certification, and thus have some big evil assessment test handed out and most of the students have to do well on it OR ELSE FANDOM IS CLOSED! CLOSED, I SAY!

Cue much frantic studying and WTFing from the student body, who usually don't have to pretend to be scholarly. And then the test somehow introduces cracky elements anyway, in ways that I haven't figured out yet because this is a brand-new idea and it has enormous plot holes that you could drive a truck through. BUT STILL.

And then there's this stuff! Which I am throwing in General Brainstorming for now, because I really don't have anything past the initial ideas.

Xena canon, as some of you may know, is absolutely riddled with crack. And Gabrielle's going to be (mostly handwavily) going through canon up through season 4 and probably a little bit of season 5 over the course of her time in Fandom. So I'd love to adapt some of the more cracky episodes as game plots.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (http://whoosh.org/epguide/girls.html) is the first one I'd love to take a shot at, not so much because it's a cracked-out spoof of vampires (they're totally vampires, except they're Bacchae and can only be killed by being staked through the heart by a shard of dryad bone) as because there is a RANDOM RAVE CLUB IN ANCIENT GREECE. There's also For Him The Bell Tolls (http://whoosh.org/epguide/him.html), which is itself a tribute to the Danny Kaye movie The Court Jester, and would basically involve wacky hijinks with an enchanted bell and a complete doofus who turns into a dashing hero and back every time the bell gets rung. A Comedy of Eros (http://whoosh.org/epguide/comedy.html) is an option too -- Cupid's arrows and wacky love-at-first-sight fun!

Then there's The Quill Is Mightier . . . (http://whoosh.org/epguide/quill.html), which I actually sort of did for a class activity (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1013005.html?thread=55255309#t55255309) a way back, but would love to do in game. Although I think [livejournal.com profile] oops_mbad's powers can accomplish something similar so that may be off the table.

But then there's Fins, Femmes, and Gems (http://whoosh.org/epguide/fins.html), which could be a lot of fun -- basically involving a bunch of people who are trying to accomplish something, and someone trying to stop them by casting a spell that gets them completely and totally obsessed with the first thing they see after the spell is cast. So then they have to find a way to accomplish their goal anyway. :D

And dude. I haven't even touched seasons 4-6.

I mentioned this down in Specific Brainstorming, but it was suggested that I add it here, too.

I got this one while reading about the multicultural day. Karla's the only one from Kaeleer, and idn't good at cooking, or organizing anything fancy or cultural. What she can do is spin tangled webs, which act as really, really powerful illusions.

For something like this, she'd probably want to create and illusion of Kaeleer, one that the other students could interact with, probably based on some of her memories. Then either people can get trapped within it, or have it merge with the island temporarily. True it's all illusion, but while you're in the tangled web, it won't feel like an illusion. Then, no matter what happens, there's aren't any consequences because it was all an illusion.

Kaeleer is dangerous; so there could be plenty of things to fight off, but students will also have to figure out how to break the tangled web, figure out what happened (because for it to fail on such a grand scale as this, there has to be more than Karla simply screwing up the spell), perhaps even organize a rescue or protection detail.Good for fightery types and not-so fightery types.

I have two of these!!

I would like to do some kind of plot with the religiously tied folks in game. Joan, Loki and Biff are the ones who immediately spring to mind, though Maron and Annja would likely fit in here with the whole Joan of Arc tie-ins they have. My preference is to keep it with Christianity, but since I really don't have anything more than a vague "biblical type plot" in mind, I'm open to other ideas.

Re: Specific Brainstorming

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My other one (and I'm too lazy to switch logins at work with no ljlogin), is some kind of caper plot for the con artists in town. Specifically Rusty, Sophie and Parker, but I'm sure there are others who fit this category.

I'd like to have them steal some kind of artifact from the Smithsonian. Not sure what. My brain says the Hope Diamond, but that would be awfully hard to fence. And [livejournal.com profile] mouthy_merc suggested they could make it *look* like they were going after the Hope Diamond as a distraction while they steal their real target, which I loved.

So, yeah, any other con artists out there who would be interested? :D

Re: Plot Spare Parts

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
As always, I throw Joan in here. For those of you who are new or who may have forgotten, Joan gets random assignments from God on a fairly frequent basis. They generally seem to have no rhyme or reason but always end up with some kind of positive outcome. [See: Jan's (http://joan-notjane.livejournal.com/5498.html) Exit (http://firebringerborn.livejournal.com/6671.html) Plot (http://firebringerborn.livejournal.com/7203.html)]

So, if you need something to happen and aren't sure how to make it happen, Joan could probably help.

My three offerings for plot parts are as follows:

If you need someone finding out a secret from a characters/items/whatever's past, I offer Liir to accidentally discover it. I also don't mind having him get in trouble for that; all what you'd need him to do. He's also good for catering as well as aerial surveillance. Ooh! Or Random Magical Accidents. He's good at those too.

If you need someone frozen in time or space, or some forensic work done, Abigail Irene is there to help you out. Need to keep someone who's sick or injured from getting worse, she's your woman. I could also say 'solving murders' but I seriously doubt that'll happen around here too much.

Need a connection severed, something cut, or care to have your character make a deal with the Devil and Fiona is your girl. She herself can see the threads that bind things together (anything from an emotional tie to an addiction) and is able to cut them easily enough; it'll take some convincing, though, since her own experience was unpleasant. Yours wouldn't be--totally different circumstances. She can cut anything. Also, her father is Lucifer so if you wanted to do a plot and have him show up for some reason, she could give him a call. No really.

ALSO!

Shilo's baldness. HELP ME. It's well-established in canon and I cannot for the life of me figure out a way of it being brought up here short of someone going "OH HAI IMMA TUG ON SHILO'S HAIR OH GOD IT CAME OFF."

The only idea is that she takes her hair off during a game of Hats in drama class or for some reason in Superhero Fashion. IDK.

If there's anything dead (person or thing) that needs to be brought back to life for whatever reason, Ned's your man. One person knows he can do things like that but if you need him, we can talk. Just make sure you know the ramifications of his unique talent (he brings something back, something else of comparable value has to die etc etc) beforehand.

[livejournal.com profile] spring_lost and [livejournal.com profile] endsthegame are always at anyone's disposal if you need someone to manipulate a situation down to your needs (Cable) or a character into doing something that's good for them (Ender).

Posting this from totally the wrong account. But, hey, I suppose you could list 'Arthur is Pure of Heart and likes beating the shit out of things for justice' as a plot spare part... if a common one. (Although, if anyone has anything Arthurian-legendish in their canon they want to poke at, I'm open for talking)

Re: Everything Else!

[personal profile] weetuskenraider 2009-05-13 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
This is down here because it's sort of . . . the antithesis of a plot spare part, really, and I'm kind of hesitant to even ask because what it basically amounts to is me asking if anyone has a plot that I can sort of piggyback a bit of personal character development onto. Which I don't really want to do, but while it's something I kind of want/need to have happen I don't want to make a whole plot out of this one thing.

And it's a long way off still, too -- but planning canon catchup is tricky when you're trying to completely rework an entire trilogy of WTFery. *cough*

To wit: anyone have any kind of plottage in mind for sometime in the not-so-near future (six months or more, maybe, although I'm fairly flexible on timing) that calls for someone to do something crazy and self-sacrificing (but survivable) to keep a bunch of people from getting hurt, or at least hurt more severely? (The canon example is failing to disarm a bomb, but managing to deflect a good chunk of the damage.) What I have in mind wouldn't call for much more than that one incident, and I'd be perfectly happy to work things out so it'd have minimal impact on the rest of the plot.

WOW, TL;DR COMMENT IS RAMBLY. Um, sorry.
